Steven's Story
After living for 2 years in Indonesia, I moved to Pittsburg, CA in late 1963 and enrolled in Hillview Jr. High. From there, I went onto Pittsburg High School for a year, again moving to Tacoma, WA and finishing out my last 2 years of high school at Woodrow Wilson High School, graduating in 1968. In late 68, I moved from my Mom's home to live with my Dad.
I took off a year and worked, starting up with Business Admin at Columbia Basin College in Pasco, WA. In late 69, I met and fell in love with Patti, later marrying her in August 1970 at the tender age of 20. Our first child died 2 days after he was born. Later, we adopted Patti's niece, Melissa. Melissa is OUR kid and we're so proud of her.
I worked in the engineering field as a draftsman and later a designer from about 1972 to 1986. After being laid off in 1986, I filed for and ...Expand for more
was provided Social Security Disability due to my being legally blind. My blindess is a result of a progressive eye condition that slowly "eats" away at my retinas, causing tunnel vision.
While on SSDI, I went back to college, obtained my AA (with honors) and eventually returned to work in late 1989. Ironically, I started back to work with the Social Security Administration (SSA).
My career with SSA eventually landed me in Baltimore, MD, the headquarters location for SSA. I retired after 18 years with SSA and moved back to the great Pacific Northwest in August of 2008. Patti and I live with our 13 year old mutt, Chloe in a great condominium community and see our grown daughter every weekend. Occasionally, we see the grandkids, one out of high school and the other just starting high school.
My, how time flies when you're having fun.
