Steven's Story
Life
After high school graduation, I attended Oklahoma State University for two years before changing my major [at God's direction] from Architectural Engineering to pre-med and transferring to Oral Roberts University where I graduated in December 1982.
I was then married to my ORU sweetheart [Janna] on Christmas Eve 1982 and have been happily married for 25 years this Christmas. We have four children [ages 20 to 12].
I was selected for the Air Force Health Professions Scholarship and graduated from the ORU School of Medicine in 1987 and completed my residency in Family Practice at Eglin AFB in Ft. Walton Beach, Florida. I concluded my Air Force career with three glorious years in Hawaii where perhaps I'll get to live again before I die.
Upon separation from the USAF in 1995, we moved to Tallahassee joining one of the top health plans in America [Cap...Expand for more
ital Health Plan]. I have now been in Tallahassee for nearly 12 years and this past year became one of the team physicians for Florida State University for both football and all other sports. This has truly been an experience of a lifetime! I am also on the faculty of the FSU College of Medicine as well as the undergraduate Sports Medicine program.
My family and I are also very active in a rapidly growing local church and lead a weekly fellowship group in our home. I have also served on medical mission trips to both Nicaragua and most recently the far reaches of Cameroon where I subsequently spearheaded the construction of a medical clinic and "hospital" [I use that term loosely] as well as the training of two local villagers to become the "doctors" serving their village of Asha in Noniland. I also use the term "doctors" in the loosest sense of the word:)
