In TN we joined the First Baptist Church in Pulaski and I was in the band there until the virus hit. I'm back with the band after a year or so hiatus. But have limited myself to 2 services per month to cut back on exposure. We recorded first CD 2003 with veteran producer engineer - Chris Huston. 2007 Recorded two singles with Billboard 2002 Top Ten artist Jeff Pitchell producing. 2009 Recorded The Long Way Home CD with Tony Spada (East Hartford Musician / Producer). Have been working on old Ham and antique radios also. Have built some antenna systems which are all over the yard LOL. Amateur (HAM) Radio operator since 1988. I spend part of the mornings each day chatting with some other Hams in the central / and southern states. Occasionally make an international contact but usually in the fall and winter for that. Have made some great friendships with several hams in the UK and in 1997 spent a week in London with one and his family. It was a wonderful and memorable time. We are still in touch regularly by phone mostly but we'll get back to radio when conditions permit. The nice thing about living in the country is you have to become self sufficient. I have a handyman and some other help from time to time but I've learned a lot of things over the years - electrical - minor plumbing - and small engine maintenance on my...Expand for more
own. Hope you all are doing well - think about my former classmates often. Life is good, but it has its challenges!! ______________________________________ Addendum to Challenges: In 2008 my bride since 1973 developed end stage congestive heart failure on top of a rare ataxia which has had her in a wheel chair since the early 90's. We almost lost her in the beginning as the teams of DRs strove to treat her for the CHF. She ended up with some cutting edge treatment at Hartford Hospital with two groups of DRs working with her. She was put on a portable IV drip (infusion pump) with some very strong medications which lowered her blood pressure and heart rate drastically in order to keep her going. She was not a candidate for a heart transplant and so we were told to get her affairs in order since the IV drug was a short term prospect and would probably result in her demise in a few years or less. This treatment was extremely delicate and involved about 9 pills daily + the IV. We had nurses in each week checking the pic line and taking readings and every day I took her vital signs and kept records of her condition. We have been followers of Christ for a long time - she longer than I, so we gave as much of this stress and pain to God as we could. I prepared myself to be a widower as best as I could and she prepared to go home. There were lots of people praying for us constantly and the support from church and friends was wonderful. I became a medical technician during this time by default and learned a lot about this process and her care. Last September she had a third echo cardiogram which showed some improvement in the heart. The Drs were guardedly optimistic but not convinced anything beyond the meds was doing this. In October during a routine daily vitals check I noticed a significant drop in her BP - by keeping a daily log I could easily see this was not the norm and I called HH. They suggested we get her in and within a couple of days they had to pull her off the IV as she was being over medicated - another echo was done and she improved even more. The Drs were besides themselves and amazed. To quote one cardiologist " I don't know how, But we'll take it." We know - God was in this from the beginning advising and being our rock thru this time. He's real folks. And I have my bride back better than ever. We just celebrated 47 years married in January and 49 years together. We are closer now than we've ever been.
