Steven's Story

Life My Spouse I met the former Miss Deborah Colleen Konen after traveling six thousand miles (and that was just for the summer of 1967) and ended up in San Diego, Ca. The trip began the day after our Senior Class graduated. At the time of our meeting she lived just across the street. Career training plus schooling took me to the Los Angeles region. She continued her studies at San Diego State University. We were married in San Diego during the summer of 1972. After we were married she transferred to the University California Fullerton were she graduated. We're still married and it is now 2021. Job career has led to transfers over the years from Las Angeles to Colorado, back to Las Angeles and finally to Detroit, Michigan. I just retired from one of the major news medias, Gannett/USA TODAY. Now what? Who knows? Debbie and I have many interests. And those interest can take us ro many destinations. Just after retirement we went back to visit our Navajo friends in Colorado. We always try to go unannounced but some how when we arrive in the area it is as if the people come out of the wood works to rekindle old friendships. Thanksgiving 2009 we made a trip to Prescott AZ and another one to Las Vegas, 2005 to Hawaii. On the side I'm known as "Yummy Buddy" in the rock 'n' Roll music field. This was due to my relationship to one of the 1960s oldies music groups, THE OHIO EXPRESS. They are best known for their three Gold Hit songs "Yummy Yummy Yummy", "Chewy Chewy" and "Mercy", plus many other songs. Update on the band is that they went over to Europe just before Thanksgiving of 2007. They did so good over there that one member decided to stay. What the future holds - who knows. The one who decided to remain was one of my best friends. You might catch some video on YouTube. In the past I was involved in the politics of Colorado. It has continued to this day. I have said that I could win an election on name recognition alone. Steve Harvey, get it? Lol. In the past we lived a...Expand for more
mongst the Choctaw (3 yrs.) and Navajo Native American (7 yrs.) Indians. The family went through a traditional Ceremony of Adoption into the Navajo Tribe in 1979. The tribe consists of different Clans and we're members of the Spruce Tree Clan. I like to study in Libraries searching Genealogy and History. I've even been able to changed a few small facts about this countries history by pursuing this hobby. One area of Illinois even asked me to become a Historian for them. I lived just a short period of time in Haddonfield NJ. My memories I fine that I really enjoyed those having lived in that Colonial style town.. Even to this day John Wyatt (a fellow 1967 graduate) and myself are still good friends. I took my wife, Debbie, back after being gone for so long. Debbie found out and admitted to the truthfulness of the historic setting that Haddonfield has. Prior to Haddonfield NJ I lived for two years in Taiwan. It is one of the things about being a Military Brat. You move around a bit. The move meant I also lost the friendship of someone I cared about. Time moves on and we probably woyld od grown apart anyways, yet I still wish her the best to this day. Taiwan I found that living there was a true experience of my life and that I really did like it there. My Pets Right now we have two small digs. Kaylee, a Pomeranian and Cooper a Papillion. My Kids Carrie, married. Graduated from University Detroit Mercy with Honors and Bachelor of Arts from Wayne State and is a teacher. We have three granddaughters from that union. Katie, Chloe and Morgan. John, married. Works at a hospital north of Detroit, MI. One grandson named Silas. Jennifer, married. Lives south of Phoenix, AZ. and works for Progressive Insurance. Yes, she has met Flo. One grandson from her. His name is Cody. With life as it has developed today I wish you all to stay safe. A few of you I wouldn't mind to reconnect with. Three have done so of the five. The years went by and you might call it foolish but the memory of them has lingered.
