Steven's Story

Wilson and Poly decided to have reunions on the same day in 2008. I spent most of my time at Wilson's, and only caught the tail end of Poly's. My wife had her 20 year reunion as well, so we got to meet each other's old friends and put faces to names. I hope some of them keep in touch. It's been too long! Look for me on Facebook! Life In my freshman year at UC Davis, I met an amazing woman that would become the world to me. We came from different backgrounds, but discovered that we were a perfect match. We became constant companions, best friends, and twin flames - more than soul mates. We got married in 1993, after graduating college. In 1994 we bought 2 one-way tickets to Amsterdam and spent 6 months living in a VW Bus and driving around Europe as our second honeymoon. We didn't think it possible, but the experience brought us even closer together. We've done a little traveling since then, but nothing to compare. We have 4 healthy, beautiful kids. My hair is still there but it's gone gray. I still play music on a regular basis. I sing, play guitar, sax and drums, both by myself, to my kids, and in an occasional garage band. I skied for the first time in years in Feb 2008 and taught my 8 year old daughter, who got to learn in a light snowstorm. In March 2009 we went back and 3 of our kids took lessons. I'd like to ski more, but it's just so expensive and far away. I want to get back into ultimate frisbee for fun and exercise. I still juggle for fun, but I don't perform anymore. I went to the big Star Wars convention in April 2007. It was great fun, and had the added benefit of making fans out of my little ones too. Did I mention I'm (still) a huge geek? School Mrs. Lunnis, my 9th grade english teacher, will forever be an inspiration. She whipped us all into shape and gave me a strong grasp of language and writing that has served me well. We hated her at the time, but we LEARNED. Music played a big part in my school experience. "This one time, at band camp..." Yeah, I went to Arrowbear Music Camp for years. I was a band geek. I still am. "Hell Yes!" as my college band-uh! would say. "Wail" as my Wilson drum corps w...Expand for more
ould say. "Yippie Skip" and "Shubidua" as the jazz band would say. Computers were an obsession of mine from an early age. I used to play with my friend's cassette-tape driven Trash 80, and had an IBM PC when that was the actual model, and not a generic term. I took classes (and later tutored) on Apple IIe's and PCs, and remember when the first Mac appeared, in Mr. Henderson's Geometry class. DOS and BASIC later gave way to UNIX and PASCAL, and I was using the internet before most people had heard of it. (back when I had to hike uphill in a snowstorm both ways to deliver email) Kids these days. College BA in Psychology from UC Davis. Raced on the downhill ski team. Marched in the Cal Aggie Band-uh! (alto sax and drums) Partied, dated, and met my future wife. Studying? Not if I could help it. Spent a year in Copenhagen, Denmark, as part of the UC Education Abroad Program (EAP). Traveled extensively through Europe while there. Learned fluent danish, and enough credits for a danish minor. Took courses in medieval studies at the university, in danish. Joined an ultimate frisbee team and competed on the national level, at tournaments in Germany and Holland. (not hard to do in Europe, but it still sounds cool) Also perfected the art of juggling and was exposed to busking. (street performing) Workplace In college I worked as a semi-professional juggler, in both paid gigs and pass-the-hat type busking. I taught juggling at the Davis Experimental College. I performed at the Farmer's Market, Whole Earth Festival and other venues. I also had a regular job as a network administrator for a department on campus. I did hardware, wiring, network and software support for about 20 professors, their grad students, and a computer lab. After college I returned to the family business which I had also worked at as a summer job growing up. I've slowly moved my way up from broom-pusher to VP. I currently wear about 30 hats but focus mainly on IT and advertising. Other Want to know more? I'm too cheap for the pay account here where you can message me, but you can reach me at yahoo.
