Steven Kuykendall:  

My story, after graduating in 1962 at Salinas High. (A year late as I failed to move out of the third grade at Sanborn school). I went to work for the Salinas school district; my dad was high in the school districts maintenance system. I think I only stayed for about a year. I was nearing draft age so enlisted in the Navy for a four-year tour of duty. I first served on a tin can out of Hawaii the Lansing DER 388. Then helped put her out of commission at Bremerton WA. While there I met my first wife Janette she lived in Seattle. We were married about five mounts later. I then served on the Herbert J Thomas De 833. With two tours of duty in Vietnam. I was an Enginemen and made second class in about 2 years. I got out in 1967. I stayed in Seattle where Janette was from and worked for Boeing for about two years and my daughter Tanya was born. We moved to Mt Vernon and I got into horses and raised Appaloosas (24) and played cowboy big time. I did maintenance and welding for a living. I also raised dogs and cats and chickens and my son was born at this time, Steve Jr. Worked slowed down and we moved to Salinas In about 1972. I went to work at Firestone Tire plant as a Millwright and welder, Ended up buying a House across the street from were I grew up. I did some commercial Salmon fishing out of Moss Landing and road a motorcycle. Worked slowed down there and Firestone was about to close so I sold my house and moved to Olympia WA.
