Music Steven likes includes Arlo Guthrie, Chuck Berry, Bach. Books he likes include Nuclear Physics, Theology, meteoritical. More about Steven:"I am a recognized meteorite expert; and a founding member emeritus of the International Meteorite Collectors Association (IMCA). I moved the famous Clyde Tombaugh House (discover of the so called "dwarf planet" Pluto) from its original location to my property and am in the long process of restoring it. So far an 8 year endeavor, it is almost done. Self employed, I currently make petrographic slides under the trade name "PetroSlides" a company owned and managed by my wife of 33 years, Diane Schoner. My Hobbies also include restoration of vintage Geiger counters scintillators, and astronomical observations of the sun with a home made solar heliostat telescope. In Jan. 2003, I suffered a major life threatening illness, ADEM (Acute disseminated encephalomyelitis ), which has left me disabled. A cubic inch of my left brain was removed in a major biopsy after I slipped into a coma. I was given no hope for survival, but by the Grace of God, I came out of it. With a strong will and stamina, I am able to work part time producing petrographic slides for research, a process that took me 7 years to learn on my own. The illness that nearly took my life was a life changing event in a life of many diverse changes. Yet the physical debilitation that it left me with, plagues me to this day. After coming out of a coma, having had an near death experience, I had to relearn much of what I once took for granted. Learn to speak. walk, and write, ever re-learning and learning new things since. I rarely ever get ill, but my immune system reacts very badly when it gets assaulted. The first major life endangering illness came in the Summer of 1975 when I nearly died from a un-diagnosed condition to my liver. It was a very traumatic event in my life an...Expand for more
d it resulted in some very bad career decisions... Such as getting involved in a radical religious group, in other words.. "A cult." Getting out of that cult in '84, and working as a machinist I got chicken pox in 1986 at 35 years of age... Then as working for the National Park Service as a ranger, I contracted Hanta virus in the Summer of '91...(Nearly died from that one) Then 2003, Jan 6th... fell into a coma with ADEM, and with that I had a near death experience that disabled me. Between these four episodes,.. No illness at all. Perfect health. So the underlying condition for these episodes is an over active immune system... A condition that I now understand and take measures to avoid getting illl. So I am here, alive and well for the moment. One of my faults and perhaps an asset (depending on one's outlook) is that I have Asperger's Syndrome-- A bane and or a blessing. (Please bear with me... As being expressive and wordy is a trait of Asperger's) So... In the early days of my 60 year life it caused enormous problems even into adulthood. Back in the '50's little was known about it as it was first identified by Hans Asperger, who described the disorder in 1944. This syndrome was not widely recognized until much later. So never knowing this, I went down many odd, wayward paths, spiritually, mentally and physically... And I have many regrets in traveling those odd paths; being the "odd man out" in school, serving wasted years in a cult and other paths too circuitous to mention here... Yet also many accomplishments in the field of meteorite studies and travels. I came to understand that I was and am an "Aspie"... A profound revelation as to how my mind works and has worked all my life. In this I have come to a singular philosophy that now fully encompasses every aspect of my life and what I now do. Words that came to me in my musings my quest for knowledge: 'Compared to the Infinite we know next to nothing... What good we do with what little we do know is the key to Wisdom...' And so, I hold this tenant close to heart... As the remainder of my life unfolds. Thanks for reading my profile... Peace and be well...".
