Steven's Story
Life
I always wanted to be a Marine Biologist when I grew up. My parents thought that was a scary (my mom does not swim very well) and curious idea. As it turns out, they were partially right, but I still love the sea.
I have great memories of working at Farrell's Ice Cream, going to the South Drive in (and sneaking in some booze) My High school crush on Melissa McMaster, but I wasn't quite the boy she was looking for. Cruising on Broadway was always a blast, except the cops seemed to know me by name....
After EHS, I went to Metro State and graduated 1986 with a B.S. in Business Admin. In college, I thought that everyone had bugged out of Englewood. Turns out that I was one of only a few headed out of town, and out of state.
I moved to L.A. for about three months, then moved down to San Diego for the next five years. I married my wife Tracy there and we had a son. My career ended up in sales for high tech companies, first software, then after moving to Austin, Texas, in 1991, I joined Dell, Inc., and worked there until March 2006.
My last Dell role was as a Systems Consultant, I traveled the whole country for a while, then finally narrowed down to mostly Texas. I have sold lots of computers, including one of the fastest SuperComputers in the world.
In March of 2006, I joined a company called Ardence. They were bought by Citrix a year later. My role is to drive sales efforts through Dell. I have traveled all over the US and to Europe. Very cool!
The Citrix role came to an end in February 2009 because of the economy going south. I was unemployed for about a month and a half. I landed a very good role with Mellanox Technologies as the Business Development Manager to Dell, helping them sell High Speed interconnects primarily for HPCC (Big Computer Clusters)
So email me, and maybe we can meet for lunch or dinner if our paths cross.
At home, we are a family of three, plus 3 cats.
Believe it or not, I really do miss staying in touch with a lot of the people I grew up with. At our 20th EHS reunion, I found that only a small number in our class moved away from Englewood. Most seemed to just stay put. That seems weird to me, as I have always like to seek out adventure.
I do a lot of photography in my free time...Expand for more
(what little I have) I will post a couple of my pictures, when I get a moment...
School
My favorite teachers were Coach Sanger, Dr. Gerardi, Mr Hargadine, and Mr. Huff. Terry McEwen was very cool. Bobby Bristow was a fire cracker! Mr. Icabone at Sinclair.
My best friend was Rick Veenstra, My other good friends that I remember include Ted Smith, Mark Ibsen, John Schmitz, Rick LaForett, Debbie Knox, Jim "Animal" Hughes, Sarah Belin, Sheri Bond, Bill Simons, Dan Thomas, Kelly Upchurch, Shelly Will, and quite few others. I apologize if I had had a alzheimers moment and forgot some of my other cool "buds" from back then.
Marching Band, Jazz band, the orchestra, cars & dirt bikes were the biggest things in my life back then. All of my friends had something to do with at least one of those things.
College
My time at Metro State was great! I had great friends, fell in love for the first time, found out what I wanted to do in my career (to an extent). Working out was huge part of my life. I remember shooting pool, going to the Gold Rush and Thirstys to dance. I took Tae Kwon Do and Judo for the first time in my life and found out what great stress relievers they were. Thank you, Mr. Larry Magill and Robert Rhone (sp?)
Workplace
I worked at Dell for 13 years. I started out in 1993 as an Inside Sales Rep, then became the first Server Sales Rep in the company. After that I became a manager for Dell's Technical Sales Reps in the Healthcare Division. That quickly led me to the role of Systems Consultant in which I traveled most of the US doing technical solution sales. I wrapped up my career at Dell in the same role, but supporting the Higher Education Divisions in Texas. I left Dell in March of 2006. I can't see myself ever having a job that keeps me at a desk. I enjoy travel and meeting people and the thrill of winning new business.
Military
I did not serve in the military. I am thankful to those that have served. They are true heroes. As a very frequent flyer, I often get upgraded to first class. As a small personal "Thank You", if I am on a flight with anyone in the military, I ALWAYS give up me seat for them. By serving in our military, they have agreed to give up much more for all of us. It is the least I can do.
