Life
After H.S. I moved to N.California and started working as a maintenance man at a trailer park my mom owned. I did well, but, it wasn't as lucrative as I was expecting. So, I took a job logging. The money was really good, $60K a year, and I only had to work about 8 months out of the year! I'd still be doing it but, thanks to the environmentalists, the logging was shut down. It seems that they (the environmentalists) were only able to find 1 or 2 spotted owls (an endangered species) within a 100 sq. mile area by noon on several occasions and blamed it on the timber industry. So, then I moved to Colorado. I wound up developing a severe alcohol problem and only lasted about 6 mos. up there. Not to mention it gets COLD up there. So, I moved back to S.D.
When I got back I tried several different jobs, from steward at a 5 star hotel to mechanic, and none were very satisfying. So, I followed a friend of mine's advice and joined the Carpenter's Union Local 1506. I found my calling! That was in 1994, and, I've been doing carpentry ever since. It's kinda ironic because, I found out, my grandfather was a master carpenter! So, I guess, it's in the blood. So far, I'm really happy with my life right now.
