Steven's Story
Lately, after reading about Sam Maloof of California I've realized I have a passion for restoring things - houses, cars, furniture, etc. I have some funny stories to tell about when I restored a 3-story brick shell in the District of Columbia. Everyday when I would arrive to work on the shell I'd drive around the house and do a recon of sorts to check out the place. One day when I was driving down the back alley I observed the back door open. On my second trip around the house, looking closely I discovered the back door was gone.
One thing I've discovered about life is you can make mistakes which will haunt you for many years. I was foolish enough to let go of a wonderful woman and to this day I regret it. My memory is funny in some ways - I can recall clearly as though it was this morning the time Ted Alfaro choked a friend of mine in the locker room. This was 1973. Also Coach Jeff Smith once screamed "Shut u...Expand for more
p" at me. To this day I still feel bad.
I knew a fine man named Jack Pfeifer who drove a green Toronado. The car was infamous for getting no appreciable gas mileage. So, to improve the miles per gallon (gas was 29 cents per gallon) , he turned the hood ornament sideways to lessen the car's wind resistance. I knew a young lady that I was madly in love with but she seemed unattainable (You know who you are). I had recently moved back from Fairbanks, Alaska and, in retrospect, I was a little distracted.
For example the Moratorium Against the War closed down Grand River. You must remember that episode. It seemed
exciting but I didn't need it. I'm afraid my studies in Mr. Van Wagner's class suffered which is really a shame.
I have Mr. Van Wagner to thank for introducing me to A Seperate Peace.
John Perreault & I were kicking a teargas cannister back and forth until
Michigan State Trooper yelled "Leave it alone!".
