Steven's Story

Life After graduating DHS I didn't even wait 2 weeks before enrolling at UNT, starting summer sessions, and picking up my life-long nickname after being harassed by a few drunk girls that became best of buddies. I graduated in 88 from North Texas and got my commission as a 2nd Lt in the US Air Force at the same time. At some point in my college experience I started dating Cynthia Mason (from DHS) and we married before I even graduated. Yep... too young to get married. As one can guess, it didn't last forever, but at least ended with the friendship still in tact around 9 years later. She is doing great in life and I wish her the best. My job as an officer in the USAF was in the operations of nuclear weapons. I was a launch control officer watching over ICBMs while stationed in Wyoming, and held a good staff job before deciding I needed more autonomy than the military could offer, and punched out as a Captain back in 95/96. I got my Masters in Management... a hard thing to manage when you are working full time, but the Air Force paid for it and I could not pass that up. I loved the Front Range still and stayed in the Colorado area for years after getting out of the Air Force. I held a number of technical training and management roles with a number of IT companies and a health care company in Colorado. At that health care company I met Lynda and she pulled me out of my wicked ways and got...Expand for more
me to settle down. We were good friends with pasts in the military and a desire for no-drama relationships as a common thread, and next thing you knew we were a couple. We still really look at ourselves as friends who just happen to be a couple - it is as close to 'great' as it should be. Lynda and I spawned, I got an interesting role at Sun Microsystems near Boulder building and managing job role certifications, and our little clan of two boys (Wesley and Connor) and two dogs gelled as a real family. In Dec of 2005 I got recruited by Microsoft to run a team that develops their job role and technology certification exams and we moved to the greater Seattle area. I thought I'd never leave Colorado, but Washington has mountains, and is green so we figured we should give it a go. I am 3 jobs into working for MSFT now, have a great team working for me, and I actually dig working for the evil empire. It is without doubt a great company, regardless of what you think of Windows or its role in the world. I do not dig the rain here. Sure, the summers are beautiful, but I am just not yet used to not seeing the sun for weeks or months at a time. The jury is still out on the location... I still don't have a large friend base here and the politics are way too liberal for me, but life is what you make it and we are trying to enjoy the adventure. That brings me up to date. Cheers - Steve (Goose)
