Stewart's Story
It took a little time but other than being a computer guy for some private clients, I am retired. Life is good.
The original parts held out for 70 years but recently had to replace both arthritic hips, one in 11-19 and the other 2-20. I am cycling again and my life which was slowly worsening for the last 3 years has improved radically. I planned to do Chicago to New York this summer and got in the physical shape to make it happen but will have wait until next summer. The country isn't ready yet with motels and restaurants due to the virus.
Over the last 10 years I really got into long distance cycling. Bought a nice steel alloy Specialized Allez in 2003, then rode from NYC to Clemson, SC to visit my daughter. It was 1,000 miles and started me thinking about bigger challenges.

decided to do a 3,800 solo bike trip from Yorktown, VA to San Diego, CA which I accomplished in 69 days.
I self-published Go West, Old Man (... and bring your AARP card) the book about my cross-country bicycle trip of that ride. It recounts the journey, from idea to reality, and includes the planning, preparation and finally the challenges posed by each of the 9 states along the way. Many of the people I met along the way are pictured and/or mentioned in the narrative. There are maps of each state visited and many of the pictures that I had originally uploaded to the Web are reproduced here.
Since then I have done a significant bike trip every summer including another cross-country ride in 2011. This summer (2015) was Route 66, Chicago to San Diego.
I had a great time at the 40th reunion and eagerly await seeing everybody at the 50th this coming November.
