Streiker's Story

Life Hi Fellow Classmates, My Name is STREIKER (pronounced striker) I am a member of the class of 1970. No, this was not my name when I attended Normandy. I had my name legally changed in 1974 to STREIKER. NO first name, NO last name, just STREIKER. If you can figure out my original name....more power to you. I haven't used it since '74. Here is my bio. It might help. I worked on the air at KIRL radio during my high school years during the time that Johnny Rabbit was on KXOK radio. My Freshman year at Normandy I attended a summer school dance where the band did not show up and I offered to save the dance and older students drove me home where I had a lot of music and equipment. We had a great time and was asked to do a few graduation parties and those led to performing wedding receptions. Normandy was the start of the mobile D.J. industry in the St. Louis area. That was also the start of a 45 year career as a mobile D.J.. After high school I continued working on radio while I went to college. During this time I worked all over the country attending college and working at different stations. After graduating from the U. of Maryland with a degree in English, Journalism and Broadcasting (mass comm.) I enlisted in the Army and spent my time in Europe working on the Armed Forces Network in radio & television after a brief stint in Army Intellegence. It was during this time that I realized that I had the perfect face for radio. When I returned to St. Louis, I continued a business that I had started while I was at Normandy. During summer school one year (shame on me.) the school allowed us to have a summer school dance in the gym (the old one). The band didn't show and I offered to get my records that I had accumulated while at KIRL along with my personal audio equipment that I had. I had a mock up of a radio station in my home where I would practice. After the dance I had fellow students ask me if I would play at their graduation party. From there I had people ask if I could do their wedding. I was not aware of it at the time but I found out later that I was the first person to do this in the...Expand for more
St. Louis area. I have now been doing it for over 35 years. My company is called STREIKER'S MOBILE MUSIC MACHINES (a division of Streiker Enterprises). While in Europe, I saw something that greatly inspired me. I saw for my first time a DISCO. They were all over Europe from the largest cities to the smallest of Burgs....so in 1974 I assisted in the opening of the first three discos in the St. Louis area. During the 70's and 80's besides my mobile DJ company, I worked as a radio DJ as well as a disco DJ at places like Your Place at West Port, Ze Left Bank, The Barn, The Wind Jammer at the airport, Jerico's, Hondo's, Bits & Pieces and many others. At one point my company was under contract with 11 different discos/night clubs to build, design and supply DJs and music. What a GREAT time and era that was. TODAY: As I continued with my mobile DJ company I was also a sub contracted DJ at the Royale Orleans Banquet Center on Telegraph Rd. in south county which ended in 2008. I still work on radio when asked to fill in for a DJ that gets sick, goes on vacation or falls over dead. This is nice because it allows me to work different formats. I do voice over work for radio & television commercials, training films and cartoons. Streiker Enterprises consists of a number of different companies. For example, we manufacture and market MIC FLAGS (MICFLAG.BIZ) to radio & television stations world wide as well as to entertainers, and anybody that uses a microphone. Mic Flags are the cubes that you see on microphones on news programs. I got married for the first and only time in November of '86 to my wife Eve. We moved to St. Charles about 20 years ago when we built our new home. We have no children. I still collect D.C. Comics and have since I was 6 years old. I have amassed one of the largest collections in the mid-west. Dont laugh... It is valued at and insured at 2.7 mil. For the past 22 years I have been working in law enforcement for St. Louis County and I am preparing to retire this year (2014). If anyone remembers me, I would love to hear from you. Thank you for taking the time to read this.
