Stuart's Story

I arrived at Hudson High in November of the class of 1980's sophomore year. My dad had been in the US Air Force so Hudson was my 3rd high school in 2 years. Thus, from 1977-78 in those high school yearbooks, I was auspiciously listed as : Not Pictured. Despite the lack of fanfare in these annuals, I have fond memories of being a Cobra. The great adolescent adventures of my life were fulfilled in our little corner of Pasco County. Nothing could beat the mischief encountered in the booming late 1970's of Florida's Suncoast. For instance, the nights some of my Cobra Band coharts would search for Yeti's in the wilderness that still surrounded the Jasmine Lakes subdivision. We were decades ahead of reality tv but we never uncovered that elusive bigfoot. I cannot forget developing great friendships (some have withstood the trials of this life) while enjoying contraband Erlanger Beer as we were critiquing aloud the music of Kansas or Van Halen and surrounded by the Cypress Hammocks of Beacon Woods. I gained confidence and a paycheck by flipping steaks & frying scallops at Skeeters on State Road 52. Again, I regard my days of study, work and play at Hudson HS as both joyful and memorable. Bad days didn't stay around for long. As I've immersed myself into life, unknowingly, the hidden talents of wisdom and the recognition of beauty have become acute. This is the experience of true serendipity. I am continually amazed at what I can accomplish on the surface. Mostly, I revere the love I have received and offered to many including our children, spouses, family, friends and neighbors. I am fortunate to have realized many of my dreams thus far. A small dream was going from marching band in friendly Hudson to marching for the Gator Band in Gainesville. Eventually, I used my degree in Logistic...Expand for more
s Management from the Univ. of North Florida. That allowed me the big career dream that lasted for over twenty years as I supervised and managed the Traffic Dept. at a specialized coating manufacturer in Milwaukee, WI. I was responsible for staff and critical shipments throughout the world ranging from stealth paint used to touch up the wings of B1 Bombers in Saudi Arabia or heat resistant coating for the last space shuttle launches in Florida, and finally, the rust proofing paint for the big metal beams used in constructing the Costco and Walmart Superstores. I got to tour Harley-Davidson, US Navy Aircraft Carriers, and other interesting manufacturing. Very satisfying work. However, as a kid who loved trains, I left that career and at age 49, I went to a tech school to become certified as a railroad conductor. Fortune smiled on me and my dream of working on a choo choo came true. I was hired as a conductor in Minneapolis, Minnesota. I've actually had two careers in railroading thus far and my "office" has taken me across 17 states. I have experienced the "in your face" four seasons and witnessed remarkable views of rivers, mountains, cities and wildlife. Certainly, life is not without hurdles. Tragedies from the deaths of my fiancé, both of my parents and other great friends & family murmur daily in my heart. Other trip ups in life have included being permanently laid off, selling and moving from homes I loved, and having been forced to leave a job I loved in order to surgically repair internal bleeding. However, I still have to smile. I think back to the wonderful adventures of our short time together at Hudson. The true gifts of that time have supplied me with the courage, optimism and faith in myself, and just as importantly, respect and support from those I love.
