Stuart's Story

I had an unusually uneventful childhood and grew into a truly dull young man, lacking any talent whatsoever. After being accepted at Olivet Nazarene University (I told them I could pay) and graduating with no honors, I was extremely fortunate to marry the former Lynn Elkins, who, in 1965, was the runner-up Miss Michigan (sort of). Since the USAF was heavily embroiled in the Vietnam conflict and desperate for pilots, I was accepted and unsteadily flew through pilot training. Early in my AF career I set impossibly low standards and failed to reach them. However, I managed to keep ahead of numerous court martial boards by moving to new assignments. Somehow I stumbled into some pretty interesting assignments, flying jets, trash hauling, spying on the Russians and East Germans, working with ST6 and other Spec Ops guys, working Special Access programs, and shuffling lots of papers. Along the way, somehow Lynn and I produced two beautiful children, Shannon and Jeffrey. Shannon was declared Miss Silver Oak of 1989 (a very local beauty pageant), excelled in sports, selected as an Ohio All-State softball and basketball player (in my opinion anyway), was some kind of academic ‘torion, graced Mount Vernon Nazarene University with her presence, and finally, married USAF Master Sergeant extraordinaire, Kyle Day. Together they produced three beautiful children, Lauren (recently graduated from Wright State U), Jaren, and AJ, all nine years apart...they didn't want to rush it. While in the AF they had to suffer assignments in Washington State, Hawaii, Japan, and Virginia. Kyle earned his undergraduate degree from Hawai‘i Pacific University and will soon complete his Masters Degree. Kyle retired and they have now settled in the Dayton, OH, area. Shannon is currently a stay-at-home mom (the best) and Kyle is a civilian working government programs at Wright-Patterson AFB, OH. Early on, Shannon's brother, Jeff (Lynn and I set the pattern. non is nine years older than Jeff.), became an explosives expert, created a number of devices whose purpose the experts are still trying to determine, disassembled his desk during class in 5th grade, plastered the side of our house with yellow paint from hundreds of paintballs in the ingenious and successful attempt to rid the area of an attacking woodpecker, created the impetus for a complete remodeling of our kitchen through his mastery of the culinary arts while lacking the ability to control the ensuing fire, and generally became the acknowledged go-to guy for solving seemingly intractable mechanical, electrical, and computer problems. He actually earned a scholarship to Olivet Nazarene University from which he graduated in 2004 and subsequently earned a Masters Degree from University of Chicago. Somehow, his single-minded devotion to academics prevented him from noticing the beautiful and multi-talented Tara Beth Moore. However, after graduation from Olivet, through the persistent efforts of socially aware friends and some newly-discovered hormones, Jeff’s eyes were opened to the possibility of a lifetime with TB, which he has subsequently begun. They are now the proud parents of two wonderful and active boys who are working on becoming California surfer and snowboarding dudes. Jeff currently is an engineer working on a classified program for NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory and Tara Beth is Lead Pastor at Pasadena, CA, First Church of the Nazarene. After 31 years in the AF, reality finally intruded upon the AF personnel system. I’m now retired and having developed absolutely no marketable skills during my AF career, I’m currently unemployed. My wonderful and still-beautiful wife, Lynn, retired from running the Scott AFB, IL, hospital (lab), which has downsized its various services subsequent to her retirement. Currently I do a lot of volunteering for our church and a local inner-city ministry. Life is Good. God is Best!

Lynn, the calendar says you are 70 today. What does that mean? Nothing! You’re still beautiful, brainy, creative, dependable, kind, loving, intuitive, talented, considerate, balanced, athletic, strong, consistent, humble,

Hmmm...not looking good.
Here we go again...our daily tornado warning.
Well, here we go again. Spring is here with the rain and storms. The tornado warning siren just sounded. If you don't like storms and rain, don't live here.
I didn't realize today is National Siblings Day until I got on Facebook. Here's my siblings and me. The one 2nd from the left (Greg) is reluctant to admit he's related to the rest of us and insists he doesn't share in our
