Sue Ann's Story

Life My Spouse Daniel and I met at a Mensa convention in St. Louis in 1995. He was living in Seattle and I was living near San Francisco. After a year of a long-distance relationship, I decided to take the plunge and move north. It was the best decision I've ever made. He's the Love of my Life. We married 4-4-99. My Kid My son, Brett, is the product of my marriage to Chuck Poindexter, a Mackenzie grad, class of '63, who died December 2003. We were married nine years when Brett was born and he was always a handful, as well as a joy. We didn't find out for several years that Brett has brain damage and severe learning disabilities. Since Chuck and I were in gifted programs in school, this was a sad surprise. He's a very loving young man. He moved from the San Francisco Bay Area to middle-of-nowhere, Texas in 2003 and then to Seattle in 2008. Next he moved to Birmingham AL to be with a lovely lady. It's sad that it didn't work out, but we're delighted to have Brett living near us again, just 15 minutes south in Federal Way, WA. Me I was a travel agent for 30 years and have traveled the globe and all of our 50 states and Canada's provinces. Besides my family, travel is my passion. My job with Expedia as a corporate travel consultant ended May 2011, so we've been traveling North America in our little Class C motorhome, Riglet. It's been great fun and a great way to make new friends. Daniel and I took 4 Caribbean cruises on Holland America back in 2013-15 when they were still doing "Dancing With The Stars" cruises and we got acquainted with pro dancers Mark Balas and Derek Hough (who asked me to do a swing dance with him!) and celebrity Joey Fatone, who also asked me to dance. Great fun!! We've since taken 4 transatlantic cruises, followed by touring Europe in a rental car for 2 to 3 weeks. Such fun it was and we're really hoping to repeat that experience in November 2021 if Americans are allowed in by then. We've had our second vaccin...Expand for more
ations and are READY! My husband Daniel is a radio producer and does play-by-play announcing for high school and college football and baseball. On Easter weekend 2012 he started announcing NHRA drag racing, even though he'd never even seen a drag race before that day. What moxie! Daniel has a one-minute nationally-syndicated radio feature called "It's A Funny Game" about true funny sports stories. He has a website that is the full name of the radio show. Then add "com" at the end. Try it for a sample audio. Right now he's on about 50 stations in the U.S. and Puerto Rico.. Unusual happenings In 1969, on a long weekend trip to New York City with Chuck, I auditioned for and was put on "Concentration" TV quiz show. The M.C. said I looked like Julie Andrews, a young Irene Dunn, Arlene Dahl, and had the complexion of Zsa-Zsa Gabor. Who cared that I tied the first game and lost the second one? I was floating! In 1977, I called "Wheel of Fortune" and asked if I could audition in a couple of weeks during a trip to Los Angeles. Two months later I was on the show! I solved four puzzles and those wins included big hugs from Chuck Woolery. Waa-hoo! One of my prizes was a trip to Europe--my first. If I hadn't already been infected by the travel bug, that trip would have done it. In 2002 I organized a reunion for my George Ford Elementary classmates. What fun! We've since had two more official reunions and two mini-reunions. Folks who'd been best friends in grade school and had lost touch are now in close contact again. So many friendships have been rekindled. It's been a blessing. It was so much fun that I did another reunion in June 2010, fifty long years after graduating from grade school. It's been quite a journey... Photos My photo albums are under George Ford Elementary. Not much from the past 5 years, but lots of good pix. Friends Hope to hear from classmates at Mackenzie and George Ford. Write me! sueannherself at comcast dot net
