Sue's Story

This is a difficult story to write explaining an extremely devastating occurrence that we experienced this past Thursday, Dec 11, 2008 ¿ exactly four years to the date that we left New York (Dominic retired at 7am on that very day.) Our world as we planned for and dreamed of crumbled 2 days ago. For more than 25 years I was investing with Bernard L. Madoff Investment Securities. Our nest egg grew through our diligent savings as well as investment income. We planned our retirement and future financial stability based on this well known, successful Investor, as did many others. This past Thursday the news broke that Madoff was arrested on fraud charges. His investment firm was the 23rd-largest market maker on Nasdaq and he himself was a former chairman of Nasdaq. No one saw this coming, not even the Securities and Exchange Commission. We lost everything ¿ over 1 million dollars of our future, our hopes, and our dreams. While Madoff is being investigated, it seems that there are virtually no ...Expand for more
funds left in the company, nor in any of the clients¿ accounts. So what we ask is that you pray for us, and the many others who are also victims of this unfortunate situation, in hopes that something good may come out of all this. Perhaps there is a chance for education that may help you here. You just don¿t know in these troubled economic times that this can happen to anybody. Please think about what you have read here and then thank God for your stability, appreciate it and don¿t lose sight of it. We feel we are strong individuals, and even stronger as a couple. We have faith that we will survive this severe economic blow with our love, our strength and the support of our caring family and friends. We are still the same people, and although we may not be happy and jolly right now, please know deep in our hearts that we still see the sky as blue, the sun as yellow and breathe the very air that we have breathed for all our lives. Our lives have changed, but we are still the same people.

As 2021 closes I'm trying to find prophetic words to share. None come to mind. I've read about people's pain from the last year, some have made life changes for the better, some have just survived. There have been new lives
Nope -it’s not for everyone !

As avid wildlife photographers, Dominic and I have traveled from Florida to Newfoundland, from New Mexico to Oklahoma, from New York to Alaska, from warm to cold, from high elevations to sea level.

I remember being a young kid and going to a museum where I saw a display of a bear in a den. It was a cut-a-way of the bear curled up in the den and laying on a pile of dried leaves. I thought the bear would b
