The year was 1957, the grade was seventh and Mike Viets was desperately, achingly, seemingly unrequitedly in love with a girl named Susie.
He memorized her class schedule stationing himself in stairwells just to watch her walk by. To this day, he can tell you exactly what she wore.

so began a very much requited relationship four decades in the making.
Two months after they reconnected, Mike and Susie Viets were married. Six years later, they still act like teenagers, and if he could, Viets would tell his wife he loves her 100 million times.
But he settled for half that.
For two whole days, Viets labored over a love letter composed of three little words (I Love You) repeated 50 million times, written in 2-point type and spanning 3,620 pages.
I fell in love with my wife when she was 11, the Placerville man said. And I never lost it.
