Sueann Walters's Story
Life
After high school I moved to Toronto with Canada Life Assurance Co.,staying with them for 16 years. I took a trip about every 2 years. I have visited a dude ranch, Hawaii, took a cruise around the continent and toured across the USA by bus.
I joined the Company bowling league where I met my husband. We were married in June 1978 and in 1981 when I was pregnant, we decided it was the right time for a change so we packed up to move to Calgary. My Dad was in a serious accident and I went into shock causing my daughter to be born 10 weeks early. I did not make the trip as planned with my husband, but did fly out to Calgary 3 months later.
My daughter Margaret became a National Baton Twirling Champion and coach. I became active in the administrative side of the sport for several years. She has now retired and so have I.
Since 1995 I have arthritis in most of my joints so I retired.. I am keeping busy by working on Family History, reading and playing games on my computer. I can be found every day on Facebook doing something.
I do spend many hours at my computer and enjoy hearing from former class and work mates. So drop me a line anytime. I will answer you. I am on Facebook too - Sueann Walters Williams
School
I was small and very shy in school, but I did very well in my studies. Since I was enrolled in the commercial courses, I did not take a language and ended school at the end of grade 12. I was not into any school clubs or sports except for the intermural basketball for our homeroom where my position was guard.
I was a member of Quinte Youngtimers, CGIT and the Fairview Baptist Church Young Peoples group.
Workplace
I went to work at Canada Life in Toronto starting on 9/08/65 in the then Math dept. I stayed until 12/1...Expand for more
8/81 when my family moved to Calgary. I worked for Sovereign Life from 1985 until its demise in 1992. I went on to work at a small insurance agency and then as office manager for several floral shops here in Calgary. However in 1995, I developed RA which has curtailed my working and retired me. I still get around, it just takes me longer!
Family
We have one daughter who is married and living in Sheffield England. We were able to visit England for her wedding in 2011. We became grandparents (Nana and Pop Pop) to their daughter Astrid born August 2014.
After having pets for most of our married life we are currently without one, but are enjoying the freedom to travel, mainly to Slow Pitch tournaments. Paul is in the Alberta Senior League and we manage about 1 every 2 weeks in the summer as he is still working.
In September 2016 I had my right knee replaced. There is no pain there now; however I have trouble with my left ankle.
Paul had a stroke June 25th 2019 as we were driving home from a baseball game. He was in the hospital for 11 weeks & is slowing getting better. Because it affected his throat & tongue he had to relearn how to eat. He still has some problems with that. We are in self-isolation since March 8th.
My husband Paul died January 10th 2021 following a fall here at home. Unfortunely due to restrictions my daughter in England has been unable to be with me. The kindness of friends, neighbours and family has been comforting!
I sold our home and am now living in Seniors Housing here in Olds. The residents are great and very helpful!
I visited England for 7 weeks from 11/26/2021 to 01/06/2022 with Margaret & family. We managed to go to many places nearby despite the masking restrictions due to corvid.
