Susan Langlois:

CLASS OF 1973
Baton rouge, LA

Susan's Story

After 26 years in the military, in 2006, my husband Jim and I settled into the house we bought in 1991 in Sumter, SC. I resumed my career as Office Manager at United Way and my husband became the Asst Director of Nursing at Covenant Place. My Mom resided there after being diagnosed with dementia in 2003. Many of you may remember her. She was our Bluebird and Campfire group leader through Jr High and she also was a substitute teacher at Glen Oaks. My Dad was a school teacher for 20 years in West Baton Rouge and he passed away in 1988 after a long battle with brain health issues. My parents divorced in 1978 and my Mom remarried and she and my Stepdad, Charles Faust, had a wonderful life traveling in their motor home for 16 years. He was diagnosed with lung cancer and passed away at our home in 1995. My sweet Mom passed away in 2009. I miss them every day but I know they are dancing with the angels. My brother Perry (GOHS Class of ‘71) passed away unexpectedly on Easter Sunday, 2019 after being diagnosed in February with Stage 4 Pancreatic cancer that had metastasized to his liver. He and his wife Peg lived in Missouri. He is also survived by his daughter and son and 7 grandchildren and also Peg’s daughter and son in law and their precious little granddaughter all of whom he loved dearly. cking as he was only 65 years young. He was so brave and he was surrounded by love when he left us. We have one daughter, Claire, who graduated from Virginia Commonweslth University in Richmond, VA. She married Thomas Lyons from Biloxi, MS in 2009. She had met Thomas when we were stationed there when they were teenagers. They reconnected after college and the rest is history. We visited Thomas and Claire quite often from 2009-2012 and then we decided to relocate to Biloxi. Jim has been a Hospice Nurse for 13 years and I retired after 40 years. We enjoy spending time with Claire and Thomas and our grand dogs Jules, Lucy and Betty. We have enjoyed spending time with our family and friends who live in the area, especially Jim's Mom who lived in New Roads, LA and we visited her quite often until she passed away on April 6, 2020 at 99 years young. We miss her so much. She was an amazing woman! We enjoy the Gulf Coast, travel often on weekend trips to visit friends and relatives, visit New Orleans often and we also enjoy traveling the back roads of LA and MS. We still own our home in SC so we travel back there often as well. Can't beat Southern Hospitality! I’m hoping we will be able to attend the class reunions now that we live closer. We will celebrate our 40th anniversary in September and life is good!
