Susan's Story

Hi, this is Susan Bedard. I have had a busy life up to now, and it is still going strong, I would like to say! My big adventure was spending time in China, teaching English as a Foreign Language to Senior High School Students. I have eight children, six born to me and two who are adopted. They are all grown up and have children of their own. I am single and have been for several years. I live at Sauble Beach, when I am home, and quite enjoy it there. I have 25 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.. I worked as a social worker in Toronto for several years, and then as a professor at college, teaching social work courses. I retired in 2000 and spent a period of time renovating my cottage to make it a home, relaxing when possible, and have been traveling and having fun ever since. But, one of my childhood dreams was to spend some time in China, and I realized that I could now do that. xt two school terms, finally coming home in July, 2010. China is very interesting, as it is developing and changing. The culture is very different from ours and offers another way of life and a very different perspective. Wherever I have gone, I have found the Chinese people to be very friendly and will go out of their way to be helpful. I am also learning and growing, along with the country. If only I could master this language! I find it a very difficult language to learn. However, many people there are learning English and love the opportunity to practice, so I could usually find someone to help out when body language and my few phrases weren't enough. I did enjoy it there and had the opportunity to travel to many different areas, including Inner Mongolia and Tibet. When I am home, I enjoy hiking with the Bruce Trail Club, snowshoeing in the winter, reading, writing, listening to music and when possible, spending time with my grandchildren, and, of course, swimming in the summer. I do love to travel. Did I say that? I also love live theater, not as a participant but as part of the audience. I think that is enough for now, don't you? So, what about YOUR story????
