Susan's Story
Life
Leaving High School, I never thought I'd have a career...all I really wanted to do was have a family. Sometime during my first marriage, I needed to get a job with benefits, so I started doing lab work for a fragrance company. It was easy, I liked it, and the job was interesting. My job blossomed into a career as I moved through departments, filling the gaps in my little company, until I finally dug in managing the Formulations Dept.
Though my work life was pretty stable, my personal life was not. I admit that I've made some bad choices where men are concerned (Oh why, oh why did I ever let my High School sweetheart slip away?) but finally, three husbands later, I think I've met someone I can be myself with.
I feel fortunate to have two beautiful children (from marriage #2). My daughter Meghan and son Gavin are the two most important people in my life. Having a family, the one thing I wanted in High School, has turned out to be the most fulfilling part of my life.
College
I hated College! ...Expand for more
Perhaps if I had gone away to school, I might have taken it more seriously. I used to roll out of bed, throw on some sweats, and run to class...if I felt like it. I started off as a Marine Biology Major (Fairleigh has an exchange school in St Croix) I must admit, I loved all of the science classes, especially Anatomy & Physiology...for a while there I wanted to be Quincy. Unfortunately, I never would have made it through all of the required Chemistry classes. (Where was Dave when I needed him? I never would have gotten through Bender's classes without his help.) So, I switched to Nursing, thinking that at least I'd have a job when I graduated...first bed bath changed my mind about that. I finally switched to Med Tech, but got too sick to finish the semester and dropped out altogether. I am currently thinking about going back to College for something in the Allied Health field...perhaps working all these years has taught me something about discipline that I was missing right out of High School.
