Susan's Story

Hi Everyone...thanks for visiting my page. Warm wishes to you and yours. I haven't been in touch with many of you, but I'll do my best to bring you up to date on my life. After high school, in 1991 I married Craig Harwell who graduated from Kearsley HS. (Todd Wilkens introduced us during our HS junior year). Craig was in the US Air Force and after we married, we lived in Alamogordo, New Mexico for a few years. We then moved to Panama City Beach, Florida. Craig worked as a mechanic on the F-15 flightline, and I worked for Darden restaurants and continued going to school at what ever college or university was nearby the base we were stationed at. During our marriage Craig and I spent much of our time together traveling and visiting our nation's sights. But, the military life was hard on our relationship and we split up in late 1995. We are still very close friends today. By the spring of '96 I was back in Flint, living at the house I grew up in on Woodmoor Drive. I continued to work for Darden...Olive Garden on Miller Rd. g as a Chef for many years and wanted to get the "credentials" so I went back to Mott and got a degree in Foodservice Managment and Culinary Arts. Yea...I know it took 10 years but, I was still trying to figure out what I wanted to be when I grew up. In 1997 I had my first and only child. Unmarried and trying parenthood for the first time at age 30; she changed my life in more ways than I could ever imagine. I went back to school to become a teacher. My original plan was to teach at the college level, but I started teaching high school students and totally fell in love with it. Funny, people say that high school is the best time of your life...it wasn't for me but I do my best to make it memorable for the kids I spend the school year with. Now, I live in a small town in north Chicagoland. I'm still a high school teacher/chef educator in southern Wisconsin/Kenosha county. I also spend my summers working as a private chef for intimate dinner parties around the Chicagoland area and catering small events. So, thats my story...to be continued!!
