Susan's Story

I am realy the original Susan Bruce. For about 17 years I was Susan Bellin, because at schools, everyone seems to expect you to have the same last name as your child, however, I finally got it back, and very few people in Texas know the other name. This despite the fact that I moved down here for the last few years of high school, along with some other family health issues that brought me home. After Paschal, I graduted from SMU with a BBA, then graduated from Trinity U with an MS in health care administration. The 1st hospital chain I worked for in Denver was bought out by Humana, and I was lucky to go to their flagship hospital in Louisville, KY. Then I moved up to a hospital in the Philadelphia area where alot of the first company's people were forming new organizations. So after Humana sold 4 hospitals in the area, I moved to MEDIQ, Inc which was a market mover for as long as I was there. My last position after some mergers and acquisitions we arranged, was as a hopital administrator in Scranton, PA. I worked a little longer after Shana was born, but I had too many pregnancy problems, so I drifted away from work, and eventually with no more full term births, I got involved in the community and local government. I have to say it was very exciting, an I made some fabulous friends. I founded a g...Expand for more
roup that built 2 Robert Leathers playgrounds in 1 year, and preserved more open space under Christy Whitman's Green Acres initiative than any other town, or county in NJ. Eventually a divorce was inevitable, so I began working as a financial planner, but gave it up after 4 years, just getting good, when I moved to Austin. Then for lack of motivation to look for work, I did part time retail at Macy's, until I was asked to manage the fine jewelry department. Sales were super in my store, unfortunately the recession hit the jewelry industry hard, so Finlay went under Chapter 11. Macy's took over the jewelry and let all the managers go, so now I am laid off and looking for work. I have a good interview at the State this week, and I'm actually interested in it because the organization has the potential to not be acquired or bankrupted. I don't count on anything these days. I've had a great run, met some great people, and traveled enough to just want to sit out on the back porch and watch the sun go down. I have a barn, with no horses yet, but somehow accumulated a little flock of Pygmy goats. I started with 2, and am expecting to have 10 or 12 by the first part of next year. Don't ask me what I'm going to do with them. That's my story, sounds more like a resume, but that is where my mind is right now.
