Susan's Story

After graduation, I moved back to Pittsburgh. PA with my family, and started working at the company that my father worked for that September.. In 1978, I changed jobs when I was hired at Dresser Industries, Inc., in the Computer Services Division. I worked my way up through many different jobs while attending Point Park College at night. In 1982, Dresser moved their Computer Services Division to Dallas Texas, and I was offered the chance to move with the company. I met my husband, Kip, at work (I'd kissed a few frogs before I was lucky enough to meet him), although we didn't start dating until a few years after we'd met, We were married in January of 1990 and "lived happily ever after", as the saying goes. I continued working for Dresser in the Performance and Tuning Department within the Computer Division, and was the Senior Performance Analyst for the mainframe computers. I left Dresser in 2002 and took a series of classes at a local college and became a Certified Medical Assistant. I started working for a company of doctors with offices around the Dallas-Ft. Worth Metroplex. I ended up being the only CMA for a newly hired doctor, and I worked for her until October of 2012. My husband worked for vendor companies maintaining the computer hardware, while my computer jobs were all software related. In 2008, Kip and I purchased a small, 20 acre farm in Telephone, Texas, which is about 80 miles northeast of where we lived. In 2012, we moved to the farm permanently and lived in our 37 ft. Fifth Wheel RV while we were building a living quarter attached to our shop. Our ultimate goal was to build a log home, and we'd actually chosen the company and model of the home we'd build. Regrettably, that never happened. Kip continued to work until February of 2015, driving 160 miles a day for his commute. He either drove the 1 Ton Dually pickup, or he took his Honda Goldwing into town. After we moved to the farm, m...Expand for more
y jobs were doing all of the mowing, tending the garden, and taking care of the cleaning/laundry/cooking. The mowing consisted of about a 14 acres field (with the New Holland 100 HP air conditioned tractor), and about 3.5 acres in the front of the property (with my Scag Zero Turn Mower.) The remainder of the acreage was wooded, and there were 3 ponds. After Kip retired, we really had the time to work on our new "apartment", and FINALLY got out of the RV in October of 2015. Unfortunately, I lost Kip on February 25, 2016... he was only 62. I moved back into town immediately, and my cat and I lived in my sister's guest quarters for 7 months. Once I got my "feet back under me", so to speak, I got into a nice apartment about 10 minutes from my sister's house. I've seen other people say it, but it bears repeating. Please, always tell your loved ones how you feel about them, and SHOW them what they mean to you! A wise old woman once told me that the secret to a happy marriage is simple.... "Don't ever let the sun go down on your anger, and never forget to tell him (or her) that you love them... every day!" I was so blessed in my marriage because we loved each other fiercely, and just as importantly, we truly were best friends and enjoyed being together. My husband's death was quite sudden... our doctor was sure he had a saddle embolism (blood clot), sent him to the hospital for a CT Scan from her office, and he was gone 2 hours later. The last thing we said to each other was "I love you!" before he went into respiratory and cardiac arrest and passed away. Having that final moment be like that is a blessing I will always be grateful for. I hope y'all will share that same kind of love with your loves for as long as you're together! ❤ God Bless!!
