Susan's Story

I wasn't very social in High School, loved art, mostly pencil drawing of my love for horses, and had few friends. Back in those days, most all the Junior High friends I had split up into several different High Schools, due to boundary situations, and my then (an still now) best friend, Donna Martin, went to Birmingham HS. Donna stills lives in LA (Pasadena) and stills has several horses. She came up to visit us last year, hadn't seen her in 25 yrs., but we always chated on the phone to keep in contact. Got married to my school sweetie (Jim Leveque), in 1965, and had 1 boy. We divorced in 1980, after moving to Oregon State in 1974. I am very nostalgic and love the "Doo Wop" music, along with R & B mixed with some 70's country tunes. Currently I am married, for last 29 yrs., to a great man and am living in La Center (SW) Washington State, with him on 5 acres. We had great times with our horses, whom have pasted on, raised Akitas, Rottweilers, and even Koi, but as time climbs aboard, we have changed our avenues, and lean more on home improvements, landscape (ever) changes and gardening. We mostly recreate by playing pool as APA & BCA leaque members for the past 14 years and pretty good at it. Have lived in the NW for 40 yrs., and am glad to be "FROM" LA. Have no desire to move back, although if I think about the past, can bring about what fun times I had growing up down there. Don't get me wrong, what I call "home" in Van Nuys, doesn't exist (as it was) anymore. Last time I was in Van Nuys, was such a culture shock. I do miss seeing friends and family. Can't believe I'm already 66 yrs. and considered a senior citizen, OMG, never thought far enough ahead to this stage in life. Have had various job positions ranging from Office work, a...Expand for more
nd flight dispatcher for Van Nuys Airport from 1972-1974, to secretary for legal depts., in the business industry to secretary in the engineering depts. of Frieghtliner Trucks in Portland, OR & Vancouver, WA. In 1998 I opened an antiques store in downtown Vancouver for 2 years and merged with a partner in Battleground, WA (10 miles south of La Center). Have since retired from that, to much time has to be devoted to owing your own business. I never left my love or desire for the artistic side of me to come out, and after experimenting with different methods I have settled on free style creations in ceramics - both molded and clay forms, having successfully peddled my wares in various trade shows throughout the NW. Since I absolutely love being outdoors and driving, I found a way of doing both while making extra mad money by driving a school bus during the school year for Battleground in the north hills, with my summers off and being on my own. People would be amazed at the caliber of degrees of individuals whom retire and also drive a school bus. We're talking CEO of big companies, business owners, government offcials, industrial management, to name a few. My son and his wife have blessed us with 3 wonderful grandchildren, in the next town over from us, so we're close enough to visit and recreate together. In February 2012, we were blessed with our first great-grandchild (a boy). Would love to hear from anyone that might remember who the heck I was, since I never graduated. If anyone ever remembered Gwen Fitzgerald from Fulton JH, I would love to contact her, since we were good friends in JH, and also Mary Stranus. I have to admit I had far more friends in JH than HS. Does anyone remember the "Surfer" & Greaser" corners at Van Nuys HS?
