Susan's Story

Now I live in Albuquerque and here's my story:
I stayed in Alamogordo for my first year of college "up on the hill" and then transferred to NMSU for the summer 1972 session. I graduated in 1975 with a degree in Secondary Education; I did my student teaching with Mrs. White at Alamo High. I mainly partied in college and made some very good, lasting friendships. I lived in Tucson for about a year after college graduation -- with my sister Nancy. I worked at a restaurant and took some math classes at U of A so that I could be a math teacher. I returned to Alamo in 1976 to teach math at the Mid-High; my dad was dying and I moved back to help my mom. 79 and my PhD in Adult Education from UNM in 1984. I became a Full Professor of librarianship at UNM (yes, that's a good story, best saved for a reunion!). I retired in February 2005 but continue to teach a class for freshman students each fall. I met my husband at UNM when I was a graduate student. He is 15 years older than us and was working in the Dean of Students Office. We've been married since 1990 (when he retired) and lived together about 12 years before we got married. He has two kids who were 7 and 10 when I met him and they are now 39 and 42. We enjoy life; play some golf and do some traveling. My mom just turned 96; she lives here in Albuquerque and we spend time checking on her. She now lives in Assisted Living. She's doing well but is on a decline. My sister Nancy died 21 years ago; she had leukemia. We tried 2 bone marrow donations but they did not work out. She has one son who is a graduate of NMSU with a degree in Chemistry; he's training to be a teacher and just got married in October 2010.
