Susan's Story
Life
After high school, I went to college in Helena, Montana (Carroll College) to study pre-medicine. While there, I started work with the disabled, and I loved the work so much, I changed my career to Special Education. I had a daughter about 5 years ago. 2 years ago, I met my husband, Rick, and my 7-year-old stepson. Together we have a one year old daughter. We live in Spokane, and we love life. I still work in case management for people with disabilities and mental illness.
College
After high school I went to Carroll College. I started out biology, and then changed my major to psychology. I graduated with 2 majors (psych and bio) and 2 minors (French and theology). I then went to ...Expand for more
EWU for my Master's in Special Education. I spent 4 years in a dormitory at Carroll, and I wouldn't have had it any other way. I met my best friend there, and she was my maid of honor and my daughter's god parent. I loved that experience. I didn't get the experience of EWU, but I'm glad I took the program, because I use that education every day at work.
Workplace
I started working for a group home facility for the mentally retarded while going to college. I fell in love with the work immediately and changed my major from biology to occupational therapy, and then to special education. I become a case manager for 24 individuals. I love the work I do--it's not what I expected--it's better!
