Susan's Story
I joined the Air Force in order to learn something,to get out in the world, and to serve my country! I got to do all three and never regretted a moment of it! Everything I learned in the USAF has carried me through my adult life. I am VERY proud to have served my country - so much that I actually joined the Texas Air National Guard for another year just 13 years after I was discharged from active duty! I really loved Hamilton AFB. It certainly was a beautiful place to be assigned! Nothing quite like listening to the fog horns on San Francisco Bay late at night or early morning! I got married for the first time out there, had two precious daughters and moved to the St. Louis area in 1969 for nearly 5 years. Then my husband's job transferred us to Houston, TX on Thanksgiving Day, 1973, where I have been ever since! We were divorced in 1975, and I met my darling 2nd husband in 1976. We were married in 1978, moved to Katy west of Houston in 1979, and I still live in the home we bought then. Dan had 3 children from his previous marriages, but his two girls stayed with their mothers. His son is "my son" and now lives in Alaska with his wife and 2 sons. My 2 daughters now live in Sealy, TX with their 3 children each. My Dan passed away after a lengthy and...Expand for more
unknown illness as well as the many complications of diabetes in March 2000. I have been a self-employed petsitter since January 1993, and love this job more than any other I have had - I had been an elementary physical education instructor for 10 years, in customer service with the Astrodome for 2 years, a business administrator for 5 years, and in the Air Force for 1 year and the Texas Air National Guard for another year. I am about to begin the 17th year as a petsitter, and expect to be doing this for the rest of my life! It is the most enjoyable job I have ever done! It pays the bills! That's all I require! And I am able to be of service to folks in my community! It is such fun running into my clients on the street and knowing I am able to help them any time, 24-hours a day, 365 days a year! I have 2 dogs of my own whom I absolutely love to pieces! A nearly 13-yr-old male Cocker Spaniel named Napoleon and a 4-yr-old female Basset Hound named Liberty. They keep me sane and happy and alive! I keep pretty much to myself most of the time, except for work. Don't date or go out since work requires I be ready for any last minute requests. But that doesn't bother me. I am happy in my own skin, as they say! I am just plain happy! I have been blessed!
