Susan's Story
Life
How funny to be able to look at your life and see that it was just as you had hoped it would be, and then some. As a kid, I always knew I'd grow up some day to be a Mom, and not just any Mom, but the coolest one on the block! A high-powered career just didn't hold that much appeal for me; I just wanted a solid marriage and family life. My girls are 12 and 10, and I think they'd testify that I pass the Mom test. I absolutely love parenting, I'm a die-hard school volunteer, and even the latest pre-adolescent interactions with my kids that stretch me are worth it. Once my kids were old enough, I joined my husband (Scott) in running our family businesses, and although we knock heads sometimes, I can't think of another man I could have married. I'm lucky in love, strong in faith, and wealthy in friendship. What more could a woman want?
Of course, it hasn't all been easy. Moving to Oregon in 1991 took me away from the Midwest and all of my family...Expand for more
. Being married to an entreprenuer meant I raised my kids mostly alone those first 5-6 years, and my marriage was precarious for awhile. I'm a breast cancer survivor of five years, and I chose surgery and alternative healing, a course that made most of those I love extremely nervous. I have had ordinary and extrordinary life challenges, and I wouldn't have made it without God. I am currently a Master's degree candidate in Spiritual Formation at a local seminary, and a Chaplaincy Volunteer at a local hospital. I am a very open-minded person spiritually, but regardless of faith, I just don't think a person can be touched by God and not want to find some way to give back. I am a workshop leader in spiritual topics at my church and in my community.
My life holds every blessing I've ever wanted, and even some I didn't ask for or perhaps deserve. If I pause to reflect about what I don't have, I usually find that it isn't something I really need anyway.
