Susan's Story
Well...I went to Gordon College on the North Shore of MA and majored in Foreign Languages and Linguistics. I had the opportunity to work with Walter Fairservis from Sharon on a decipherment project of Harappan -- the language of the ancient Indus River Valley people in what is now Pakistan and India. Then my life took a totally unexpected turn and I became disabled from Type I diabetes and its complications while still in college, but I did graduate (actually in my hospital room.)
I remain unable to work; however, I do keep busy. I married a wonderful man who was my neighbor for 13 years but lost him to cancer after just two years of marriage.
I have improved a lot -- going from a wheelchar for years to doing quite a bit of walking and activity now.
I love to garden. ...Expand for more
Now that the catalogs are coming in I am starting to drool with anticipation. I also love to embroider, make jewelry, enjoy nature and read. I also do some advocating for environmental and wildlife issues.
I have good friends here in Topsfield but I am missing my roots in CT. I used to visit my uncle and an older friend but they are no longer there. A couple of summers ago a friend and I stayed with Ron and Denise Dower over my birthday which ws great.
Being out in nature helps me put life in perspective, give me peace and to connect with God. I am blessed here to have the ocean, woods and meadows nearby; however, it is much more built up than the NW corner and there are no large hills within 30 miles.
So, I would love to hear from people and reconnect.
thanks,
Susan
