Susan Hollingsworth's Story

Life - updated 5-10-11 After graduating from Southwest High, I moved with my family to Tampa, Florida where I attended USF (University of South Florida). I received a BA in Spanish and minored in French and Internatl. Studies. In 1976, I began my Master's Program for foreign language education but then I got married and moved to Columbus, Ohio where all that I had learned in college was of little value. My husband's family owned a business and I worked with them until the birth of our first son in 1981. We had two more little boys during the next three years and I had my hands full. I opened my own decorating business in 1989 which was fortunate since my marriage would not last another two years. When my two oldest boys were on their own and my youngest was in high school, I went after my original dream...to teach. In 1999, I registered at The Ohio State University to get my Master's in Education (this time elementary ed.) I graduated in 2002 (President George W. Bush spoke at my graduation!!) and I taught 1st grade in a little town north of Columbus for three years. I was happy to discover that I do love teaching!! I moved back to Port Richey, Florida in 2005, taught 1st grade that first year and then looped in 2006 with my students to 2nd grade. I moved up to third grade in 2007 and I am still there;-) My mom, my brothers and their families live nearby but my three wonderful sons are still living in the Buckeye state. We visit back and forth with them coming down more than me going up...for nine mont...Expand for more
hs of the year, it really is eternal spring/summer here with a few cold stretches now and again and then for three months we have an inferno of a summer! Recently however, I have been flying to Ohio every few months to see my precious new granddaughter. She is sweetness and light! My life is full and I am in the midst of a new beginning...something that I am used to and something that I have come to relish as a sort of 'fountain of youth'. Who would we be without the challenges that we have faced and endured? Short of sky diving, I have had many adventures and many experiences of which some people only dream. I have traveled extensively and my foreign languages have come in very handy in that respect. My goal is to land foot on every continent in the world (two more to go), to continue to improve my teaching skills and to live my life flat out, belly down, face in the dirt to the fullest... May God bless you and your family as He has me and mine! Nothing is really different...still teaching 3rd grade, still single, still working on wringing the life out of every minute that I have on this earth....I now have two granddaughters and another grandbaby on the way. I still don't feel or act old (yeah!! tiny miracle...). Of course, that is because my brain keeps thinking that I am still in my early 30's but my body keeps reminding me that the brain is a liar!!! I did buy a house on a little lake last year and I am loving it. Alright, that is my update...not much to report but I am still horizontal and kicking:-)
