Susan's Story
So, not much has changed yet seems like so much has since I wrote about my life here.
Like so many our age losing parents has been hard, especially when living far enough away that trips to visit were great but not being there to help when they needed it still hurts. Think worse than my parents passing has been losing my younger brother, Tim. But this is life and I still feel that mine has been more than blessed.
Our boys are both in their 40’s, neither married still. Our older son, Troy, is in Hong Kong still waiting out the pandemic until he can get back to Bangkok where his girlfriends lives. Our younger, Thad, moved back in with us several years ago after he lost his job. Though he’s gotten work long ago, he remains living here which really is fine with me. At least we get to see him. Troy hasn’t been home in almost a year and with things as they are he won’t be back anytime soon. Thank goodness for FaceTime!
We of course had planned on traveling during our retirement years and all the traveling we accomplished has been to Ohio or Virginia to see family. Really not vacation traveling.
We’ve watched Raleigh grow so much in the 35 years we’ve been here. Always lots to do. The area we live in is only about 15 minutes from downtown Raleigh yet still has the feel of being in the country.

ads this is well, your life has been wonderful and may your blessings continue.
Years have passed by so quickly! I married in '71 and spent the next few years moving due to my husband's job. We lived in Naples and Leesburg, FL, Warren and Galion, Ohio. Our 2 sons were born while in Galion. Moved in '78 to Kingsport, TN. The next move was to Antwerp, Belgium for a year while my husband worked on a project for his company. It was exciting and trying to live in a foreign country. Nice that almost everyone spoke English, we had a chance to travel and see places we never thought we would while our boys were young enough to be excited about leaving friends to see new places. We returned to TN and within six months were moved to Raleigh, NC where we still live.
I recently retired from our local school system having spent 25 years mainly as a teacher assistant. Loved the work while I did it and the longer I'm away from it the more I realize I wouldn't go back for any reason.
Neither of our boys has married (no grandkids :( ). We enjoy our great nieces and nephews when we're in Ohio. Our older son lives in Hong Kong, younger son in Raleigh. We visited HK about 2 years ago and spent 10 days. Hope to go back within the next year or two to venture into areas we didn't get to before.
Life has been good to us and we're grateful for all we've been able to enjoy.
