Susan's Story
2 years AA Community College, degree in Civil Engineering Tech. Draftsperson 1978-1982. University of Maryland Baltimore County Fall 82 to Fall 1985, degree in Computer Science. Software Engineer 1986 to present. 14 years at Goddard Space Flight Center. Yes I was a Rocket Scientist. Current working on various Military Radar interfaces for a small company in Fulton, MD.
Met Richard in Glen Burnie in 1979 ... He was in Apartment 301, I was in 201. Charles Hooker (Civil War Fighting Joe is related to Charles who also fought in the Civil War) is his Great Grandfather. So he is a descendant of Hooker, and I'm a Kaul girl ... it was meant to be. He moved to Laurel in 1980, and I moved in w/ him. We got married Feb 1982 at the PG Co Courthouse. Next year is the BIG 30. We bought the house in Bowie in May 1986. We have lost 3 beautiful Cats: Smokey 16 yr, Rigel l7 yrs, and Shadow 13 yrs. All are buried in the Rose garden. We currently have 2 Cats: Dusty 13 yrs and Belle 11 months. Never got around to having Children, but I spoil by nieces and nephews. With 6 sisters and 1 brother. and the age span, I have nieces with children that are older than nieces and nephews. 11 nieces, 5 nephews, and one niece has a boy and a girl, and an other nieces had 2 boys.
I'm active with the American Legion and American Legion Riders. I got my motorcycle license in 1991. Dad was so proud, Mom not so. Current ride is a 2009 Red Yamaha V Star 950. With the Legion, I'm the treasure for the AUX, and secretary for the Riders. The riders support multiple Veterans Charities, and we get to see a lot of beautiful places throughout MD.

ide Captain for the Patriot Guard Riders, which blocks the view of the protesters from the family at the funerals. He testified at the case, which the Church lost. It is a shame that anyone would protest at a funeral for a Solider that fought for their freedom.
When we bought the house, Rich agreed to do the house work, and I would do the yard work. So, in my spare time, I'm out in the yard, planting, weeded, mowing, ... I have about two dozen rose bushes, multiple flower gardens, and a big vegetable garden. I grow tomatoes, HOT peppers, and herbs.
Richard retired from Goddard in 2004. He is now my house hubby, and has become a GREAT cook. Life is good. My dream at this point is to retire in 5 years. And, then we want to move out of the Balt-Wash corridor. Northern or Western MD would be nice.
2021 Update:
I got laid off from the company in Fulton and again 13 months later. I got a call for an interview in Bel Camp MD. WHERE? I got a job at Aberdeen Proving Ground (ENIAC computer July 1947 - Oct 1955). 5 years, 7 contracts, one year without a contract, 3 companies, and I was DONE. I retired in November 2018.
We had a rancher built and relocated to Abingdon, MD June 2013. I LOVE being out of the BALT-WASH Corridor. I have a dairy, orchard, and produce farm within 10 miles of the house. And, I still grow my own Tomatoes, Hot Peppers, and Herbs. I'm still out I'm out in the yard, planting, weeded, and mowing, just slower.
Dusty passed away in September 2014. We currently have 2 Cats: Belle 10 years old and Bebe is 5 years old.
Family has grown, currently 11 nieces (45 - 15 years old), 5 nephews (37 - 18 years old), 7 grand nieces (21 - 4 years old) and 7 grand nephews (25 - 3 years old). A Niece and Grand Niece turned 16 last year.
