Susan's Story
Life
It's been an interesting year. I travelled to Hawaii during spring break, a destination I have contemplated visiting for some time. Can't wait to make a return visit to another one of the islands. I stayed at the Waikoloa Village in Kona on the big island. What an experience! After my return, I became single once again after a 36 year marriage. There was good news from my son Scott that they are expecting a child in December....that will make 4 grandchildren....such a blessing!
School
My biggest crush was Tom Condron which began my first day of high school. I will never forget him, he was my very first love.
The teacher I admired most was Mr. Ward, my band teacher. He gave me lessons on playing the flute...i can still remember him meeting with me one on one when I was in 6th grade at Fort Meadow School. He was a man with great patience and someone I looked up to. High school band trips he made possible for us, I will never forget....Washington D.C., U Mass(we were actually directed by the late and great Arthur Fiedler)...Expand for more
, performances at the Eastern States Exposition.
Funniest and craziest memory.....sitting behind Joe Killips in Miss Sutcliff's homeroom. Joe had a way to make me laugh, which Miss Sutcliff didn't think was very appropriate. The look she gave us was penetrating, to say the least.
College
My very first roomate was Louise Cornthwaite from Balston Spa, NY. She was a smoker and initiated me with my first cigarette. It was a total negative experience which I am grateful for. Cafeteria food was not bad....and Saturday night was steak night which was barbecued outdoors. There were all nighters studying for finals. And then there were all nighters partying and drinking. Luigi's was a favorite hangout in Lyndonville. Before the dorms became coed, a favorite nightime hangout was in the basement of Vail tower with a significant other. I'll never forget the night several of us couples were there and who should walk in but Dr. Long, the president of our college! We found a new location after that incident.....the lawn behind the library!
