Susan's Story
Came to Berkner in my Sophomore year, 78-79 after a year spent abroad in the UK.
I tried out for the swim team and remained on it through my Senior year 80-81. Coach Stanley nicknamed me Bones, as I was 5'5" at 98 pounds, the lightweight of the team. What I learned and experienced has served me well throughout my life. I continued the habit of fitness with swimming and weightlifting, remembering Coach's commandment upon graduating, "don't you dare get all old and fat!" LOL!
I was also in photography throughout my three years at BHS, and enjoyed learning from our mentor and friend, photography teacher Mr. Gene Craig, many life lessons along with the usual assignments.

ade me consider photojournalism as a career, for a time.
All of that changed after graduation, as I married and had my daughter in 1982. Marriage didn't work out, but tried going to Richland College for a while, working two jobs and raising my girl. It was tough, but lead to employment at Rockwell International before I remarried in 1987. I had my son in 1988 and stayed home with my kids for a few years, and working part time in odd jobs.
I went back to work full time in 1993, back in the tech industry for the next 21 years. Raised my children, with the last one finishing college in 2009.
Now I'm retired from my last job as sales rep for an electronic component manufacturer, and about to return to college, reinventing myself in a new career. Not sure exactly what my major will be, as I still haven't made up my mind what I want to be when I grow up. :-)
Cheers to all, and remember: "Old age is a privilege not granted to everyone."
