Susan's Story

Hi to all my visitors!. I tend to be verbose, but I'll cut to the chase now. My twin Sandy and I moved to Great Neck from Whitestone at the end of April '64. We were lucky to have wonderful greeters who took us on a walk throughout the corridors of the junior high. My greeter was Arlette Westerman, and Sandy's was Bonny Roth. Bonny and Arlette introduced us to tons of people, which made it really simple to fit in (at least we thought so) right away. We enjoyed our 4 years at GNS, but mom was adamant about moving to NYC right after graduation. Which we did, 3 weeks after graduation. A few weeks after moving, I went out on a double date with Sandy and her boyfriend Mark. That first date wound up lasting 3 months until Sand and I went on to university in D.C. It was at American University where I met Bruce Rosinoff, my husband of 37 years. We've been together 41 years in total. Bruce and I debated whether to have kids on and off for a decade. When we couldn't decide, we figured it would be best not to have kids. We lived in D.C. for 4 years after graduation, and moved to Boston in '76, allegedly for 2 years so Bruce could have regional experience for EPA out in the field. We were supposed to move back to D.C. after the 2 years, but Bruce lobbyed me to continue living in Boston since he'd gone to Camp Lenox in the Berkshires for years. Yada, Yada. I'll cut to the present. When Bruce worked for EPA for 30 years, he retired. Shortly after he retired, we moved to Edgartown on Martha's Vineyard, an island just 7 miles off the coast of Cape Cod. n '85,when real estate here was relatively inexpensive. The builder of this house was in charge of the renovations to it, which made my mobility throughout the house much easier. I'd been diagnosed with MS back in the Spring of '90. So there you have it. All's well that ends well, right? If I could have had my way, I wouldn't have come down with this totally bizarre disease. When people first meet me, they don't realize anything is wrong, until they see me with my walkers or wheelchairs. Bruce and I try to make the best of a very sorry situation. Living on an Island like this is much easier for me than walking all over Boston, which we used to love to do. . .. Oh, before I end, I've got to tell you about me and where I've worked. My degree in Communications from American was focused on magazine journalism. Shortly after graduating, I became an editor at the Urban Land Institute, a trade association in D.C., whose members were builders, developers, zoning officials, land use litigators, etc. For 3 years I was managing editor of their monthly magazne, Urban Land. When we moved to Boston, I was a freelande editor for the Harvard Business School for a number of years as well as Boston Magazine. I also was freelance editor at INC. magazine, which premiered in April '79. I freelanced with INC. for about a year, and then left to join The Forum Corporation in January '81, a leading management, sales, customer service, and leadership training firm. I worked for Forum for 18 years and loved it. Unfortunately, I had to drop out when my MS began to progress. Over and out. . .
