Susan's Story
After graduating from Port Jeff, I spent a year at Transylvania College in Lexington, KY (remember Mr. Thomas? (Pritchard did you graduate?). After my freshman year I transferred to what is now Binghamton University (variously known as Harpur College, SUNY Binghamton).
I graduated in 1969 and got married that month. We lived in Endicott, NY for a year before heading out west in 1970 to Pullman, WA where my husband did his graduate work in anthropology and I continued working as a caseworker. While in Pullman, I gave birth to my beautiful daughter, Rachel. Six months later, we moved to Guatemala for about 6 months and then returned to WA. We spent more time in Pullman, then on to Port Angeles and Seattle.
After separating and eventually divorcing, I moved to Boise, Id for about 2 years - remarried. ent to work at Portland State. A couple of years later, we moved to Phoenix, AZ in 1984. With the exception of a 5 year stint in Houston, TX, I have lived in Arizona.
Initially, my work life continued to be focused on social services. Somewhere along the line it moved to training and development, human resources and college administration. I worked at ASU for 6 years. While there, I began work on my doctorate. While working on my doctorate, I accepted a position at University of Texas Houston Health Sci. Center. I was there for 5 years before returning to AZ. Since starting at ASU in the late 80s, I have worked as a college administrator. I am currently Vice President of Institutional Effectiveness and Advancement at Central Arizona College (CAC). I have been at CAC for 10 years serving in a variety of administrative roles.
The best thing about my job is still having an opportunity to connect with students.
I have since retired from CAC and I am enjoying my other great love - traveling - here and abroad. We just got back from a 4 week trip to Italy. It was fantastic!
