Susan's Story
After graduating from MHS, I went to Longwood College(at that time it was still a college). I studied there for 3 years and then transferred to VCU-MCV in June of 1968. I married in Feb.1969 to Tony Elliott and moved to Crewe, VA.
After earning my B.S. in Medical Technology, I began working part time in the lab at Southside Community Hospital in Farmville, VA. In 1973, we adopted our son, necessitating a change in occupation. Beginning as a substitute teacher in Nottoway County, I returned to Longwood and received my M.S. in Secondary Guidance and Counseling in 1982. By this time I had given birth to my daughter. I had begun my teaching career, being employed as a science teacher at Blackstone Jr. High in 1975.
In 1991, I divorced but kept my Elliott surname.

oway upgraded their public educational infrastructure, which created a single Middle School. I taught there 1981-2002 as a Physical Science teacher. I retired on disability in Feb 2002. I worked part time as a bookkeeper with my sister from 2004-2012.
I have been very active at Tabernacle UMC in Amelia until recently. Poor health has restricted my activities so much, I have been forced to give up all of my positions at church.
My son was killed in an automobile crash in July, 2010.
I have 4 grandchildren. Three of these live in Crewe about 6 blocks away. They used to visit often when they were younger, but now have so many irons in the fire, I rarely see them.
In March, 2012, I remarried after 22+ years alone. I married Cecil Shifflett, also member of MHS '65.
