Susan's Story
About the photographer...
About five years ago I bought myself a Canon Rebel after my Kodak Instamatic literally wore out. It wasn't long before I realized a uniqueness consistent with the images I capture and I feel comfortable, no worthy; of saying I am a photographer when asked. As far as knowing how the camera works, I know the basics. Experience has been my teacher and the world around me, my classroom. There is nothing more compelling to me than nature when I have my camera focused on whatever finds its way in front of my lens.
With the exception of the past two years, I have shot only 35 mm film. My Canon Digital Rebel has given me a monetary freedom I had not experienced with film allowing me the opportunity to take as many pictures as it takes me to capture the "magic" I feel when I see it. bove me and I was exhilarated as they dove closer and closer in anticipation and I laughed out loud as they retreated.
There's no place I'd rather be than surrounded by the sights, scents and sounds of nature and I am most thankful to experience it at such an intimate level. I've learned that some of the greatest wonders to behold are objects about which I need not form an opinion. They are simply miracles people pass without seeing each day: the power of a full moon in mid-winter, the upturned talons of a tree in December, the enchantment of a furry face, animal or human, the sensuality of a flower, a child experiencing nothing but the pure joy of being alive and most recently the standstill of time I felt when walking up Bear Run Creek on Cranberry River. Sometimes I feel as though I am stepping through a thin veil into a dimension of timelessness. Simply put, it takes my breath away. It is here I learned to listen without ears.
I take pictures to give voice to a wordless intimate feeling.
