Susan's Story
I worked at Encinal Swim Center for 20 years, where I taught all levels of swimming, including Junior and Senior Lifesaving, co-developed a tiny tot swim program and was pool manager for the last 8 of those years. I was recruited to coach a newly formed swim team, to be sponsored by A.U.S.D., and I have been coaching that Special Olympic Swim team for 40 years. ( Encinal's 3 pools are gone and are being replaced with 2 super sized pools.)
I earned a teaching credential from S.F.S.U. and worked for A.U.S.D. for 34 years. I substituted for 4 years, then taught 1st grade at Geo. P. Since retiring, I've been able to delve more into my ancestral past and was able to contribute to the Southern Oregon Historical Society's collection on my ancestors. I have also certified through Southern Oregon Genealogy Society that I am a "Descendant of Pioneers". Through the Irish side of my family, and a lot of evidentiary documentation, I became a citizen of Ireland. I am spending a month traveling around Northern Europe soon, and I am particularly excited about entering Ireland using my new Irish passport, and visiting the village where my grandmother was born.
After that, I'll go where my research takes me - Prince Edward Island, New York, and Australia!
