Susan's Story
I am a registered nurse, disabled due to an on the job injury. I am currently working part time as the Lead Instructor/Clinical Coordinator for prehospital providers. I will be married 25yrs in Feb. 2010 to a Woodbridge Police Officer preparing to retire in March 2010.We have a son who is 22yrs old, graduated college in 3 years with his BS in Fire Science from a school in Massachusetts and is currently a Fire Fighter & Paramedic. We own a home in Woodbridge proper. I am a life member of the Port Reading Volunteer First Aid Squad after 17yrs of volunteering, until my injury, and served 3 times as captain. I am currently in college in a BSN to Masters in Nursing program with the goal of becoming a nurse educator. My husband and I are anxiously looking forward to his retirement to travel in both the US and Europe. Becoming disabled, unexpectedly at age 42, was definitely not in my life plan, especially since I was preparing to become the Nurse Manager of the orthopedic unit at the facility where I worked. ldren but couldn't have any more children after my son because of medical issues. So, I adopt my son's friends, my students, and my neighbor's children.
I am an avid Rutgers Football Fan, have season tickets and can be seen at any home game as well as some away games. My son and I also had season tickets to the NY Yankees and the picture is of my son and I at the last game ever in the House that Ruth Built.
Despite all that has gone on in my life, I have a wonderful, supportive husband that I am proud to be married to, and exceptional son who has no place to go but up with the goal to help others and make our country a safer place by eventually working with emergency management or homeland security. I enjoy the company of good friends that stood by my side during the past 3 1/2yrs of Hell I have gone through, 4 surgeries, unbelievable chronic pain and the many road blocks that were put in my path. I have a wonderful, happy and fulfilling life while making every effort not to let my health issues consume my life, but try to live my life despite the pain.
Life is what you make it, and I plan to make it all I can.
