Susan's Story

Wow, 30 years to recall! Well, I moved to Houston in 1980 after my sophomore year at Shippensburg when my father got transferred back to Houston. I graduated college in Texas in 1982. My first marriage right out of college was brief (the 1st one doesn't count!). Three months later and now single again I became a flight attendant for Continental Airlines and moved to Denver. In the fall of 1984 I transferred bases back to Houston because I missed my family and have flown out of Houston ever since. I fulfilled my "future plans" I had written in the yearbook. I love my job which has taken me around the world and also the fringe benefits of flying for free on Continental. We also get passes on other airlines for a minimal charge and I've taken advantage of that privilege. Case in point some years ago, "Mom, what are you doing on Friday? Let's go shopping in Seoul, Korea (fantastic shopping at the time.) Northwest has a great 5 day interline trip; airfare and a Four Star hotel included for under $300." So away we went! At times it felt like home was wherever my suitcase was. But as time went on and I became more senior I could hold better trips. I'm now flying two days a week, occasionally three if I want to earn extra $. I thoroughly enjoyed my twenties and thirties. My layovers, romances and stories could rival any soap operas. Some of the long duty days of flying and dealing with the occasional wacko onboard can be really exhausting both mentally and physically, but when you're on your hotel layover, standing on your oceanfront balcony in Cancun at night, ...Expand for more
you suddenly remember why you love your job! Then one fateful day in June 2000 I met a wonderful Canadian guy from Calgary, Alberta on one of my flights. We were married in June 2001 and I moved up to Calgary to live. I commuted every week four hours by plane to Houston to fly my trip and then flew four hours back home again. In the summer of 2002 we moved down to Houston and in late 2003 at the ripe age of 43 I got pregnant. (Yes girls, be careful, you CAN get pregnant naturally at that age!) I delivered 3 1/2 months shy of my 44th birthday. We now have a darling and healthy four year old daughter, Sarah. She's a true blessing even though my world has turned upside down a bit. I heard at the reunion about some classmates who have grandchildren or were taking their kids to college. I thought, yikes, mine isn't even in kindergarten yet! So I've lived my life a little in reverse from most people but I wouldn't change anything about it. I truly cherish my high school years at DHS, free from stress, bills and adult life, when all I had to worry about was what I was going to wear to school the next day! We had a wonderful class and I made many special friends including my first love, A.S. I still remember our senior prom with the theme, "Always and Forever" as if it were yesterday. Those years, the great memories and our class mean so much to me and I'm very proud to be a member of The Class of '78. Best wishes to all of you and for those who have been taken away from us too soon. Susan Albert Kraft P.S. I'll try to put some pictures up in the near future.
