Susan's Story

Life 2015 I love the Lord and I am a Christian. I have been blessed with a wonderful husband, Merrill who is a building contractor and who also does the videography for the weddings I photograph. My photography business, "Dyer Mountain Photography ". We just bought a home and moved to Paradise, CA December 1, 2012. What a new experience! I'm enjoying the gardening on our 3/4 acre home site. My Kids -I am very proud of both of them! Michelle will be 40 years old this year. She is a Fiscal Manager for Butte County and is married to Jeff who is a tile and stone contractor. I have a darling granddaughter, Alyssa who is a in college and has a wonderful boyfriend Erick. She is quite talented! She got the lead role in the production of "Annie" and also played Wendy in "Peter Pan". She was a varsity basketball cheerleader for Pleasant Valley High School. Ah like grandma -like granddaughter!. She is quite the photographer too! We have a GREAT time going out for hours at a time taking pictures! Mike will be 37. He is a Sargeant for Lassen Co. Sheriff's Department and on the SWAT team. He loves hunting, fishing, skiing.. and all that! He hasn't settled down yet so I'm still waiting for more grandchildren, however he has a lovely girlfriend, Lacey who we all adore! I have 4 step children, Ben is an electrical contractor. They are a joy! In our spare time, Merrill & I love going to Carmel. We enjoy traveling and taking photos along the way. Above you can see some pictures of our recent trip to Hawaii and some local photos that I thought would bring back some memories for all of you! We recently designed our home and moved into it Nov. 2006. Merrill has been busy designing and building other homes in Lake Almanor but current is working doing the same at Lake Tahoe. Merrill and I have traveled to Washington, Lake Tahoe, Dana Point, Nevada City, Redding as well as Roseville, Chico, Sacramento with our wedding photography. We were commissioned to do a wedding in Alaska and I hope that pans out soon! I am now taking advanced courses with the New York Institute of Photography. It's been exciting! With work, family and travel along with our friends and church family, we stay VERY busy but enjoy every moment of it. Merrill and I also enjoy going on walks. I was asked to serve on the Peninsula District Fire Board of Directors (first female!) and also on the Lake Almanor Christian School Board. I really love serving God any way I can! I continue to plan annual class reunions for everyone that attended WHS or Fletcher Walker Elementary School (even if they left before graduation). The plan is to have an annual reunion for everyone - free of charge - at Clear Creek Park the 3rd Saturday of August every year. I had to choose Clear Creek because THAT was where we got to go for our BIG end of the year elementary school party! Life just seems to go in back in a full circle to our childhood, doesn't it! I'd love to hear from you! School I LOVED cheerleading, football and basketball games! My funniest memory was during a cheerleading "skit" that we did making Mr. Jessee sit on a raw egg in front of the student body. Mr. Manthey was my inspiration. He taug...Expand for more
ht all Math related courses. His kind, clear teaching method along with his obvious Christian beliefs gave me a respect for him that I have had for no other teacher. High School was one of the happiest times of my life and I wouldn't mind doing it over again...at least the social part! Our Senior Trip to San Francisco was a REAL eyeopener for me! The scariest part was having a few of us "country" girls left downtown by our counselors and having to figure out how to get back to the hotel. As a freshman, my biggest crush was on John Taddei - a Greenville guy that spent his senior year at WHS. Hmmmm wonder why he got kicked out of Greenville? :-) He was so nice! After that it was Scott Heard all the way until I became engaged to Russ Carney my Junior year. I actually only dated my freshman and sophomore years before becoming engaged. I'd date thru college if I had the chance to do it over again and really find out who I was. I have no regrets on my marriage to Russ but feel that I was too young and should have been more independent before marrying. I loved the bonfires at the school, school dances, homecoming, and Paul Bunyan's day. I miss the closeness that I had with so many of the friends I had back then. I guess that is why I am such a REUNION oriented person! Workplace I started two businesses, Dyer Mountain Design and Dyer Mountain Photography several years ago. If you are interested in seeing what I do, please visit at dyermountainphotographydotcom. Dyer Mountain Design started out as my graphic design business and limited edition photography. I also photograph weddings, families, senior photos and proms. I decided to begin Dyer Mountain Photography because of the overwhelming business I was receiving for the wedding/senior photo part of "Dyer Mountain Design". I have found that photography is very challenging but brings me a lot of pleasure so I am focusing my time on that aspect of my business. My husband performs the video portion of weddings while I do the still photos. We make a great team! Presently, my photo of Lake Almanor / Mt. Lassen is being displayed on the entry gates to the Lake Almanor Country Club. I participate in a craft faire at least once a year if the date isn't already taken for a wedding. I worked with a company who in turn submitted my idea to HP for a water resistant, fade proof canvas to have photos printed on. They look like oil paintings. My work was displayed at the Lake Almanor Inn (The Old Crossroads) until they closed. If you want to see more scenic and other photography, join Artbistro.com It's free and easy to do. My name there is gooseysue! It's been 4 years since I left the Lake Almanor Country Club after almost 20 years there as an accountant. I also help my husband in his contracting business. In the past I have waitressed and have been a hostess for 3 restaurants (at the same time) while working full time at the country club. I also worked as a designer and typesetter for Chester's Pyramid Printing until they closed their doors. Several years ago I headed up a Christian Singles Ministry, was the organizer for Joy Fellowship (a Christian women's group which encompassed 13 different churches) and worked with 2 separate church youth groups. Time flies! I also volunteered in my children's classrooms, Little League as a score person and organizer of a lot of classes reunions. I can't say I've ever been bored, just tired! It's all fun though, not really work! I stay in touch with a lot of my friends and classmates from Westwood! It's so important to me! Please give me a hollar! It is always fun to catch up!
