Susan's Story

Well, where to start. After graduation I began work as a nursing asst in Robbinsdale. After that I was married thus my last name changed to Martti. I went to college and recieved my degree in nursing. I have worked in Longterm care ever since. I found my nich in life working on a memory care unit which I love. The pay is not all that, but the perks I get far out way, any paycheck. I divorced myu husband in !988 on good terms, no nasty break up. The parting was mutual. Both had moved on.. I am still in Long term care they will probably have a bed waiting for me when I retire Although I was athletic all of my life, I have been plagued with some health issues related to all the sports I played and I suppose genetics had a role in it. I had a knee replacement in 2008 prior to that a cervical fusion in my neck in 2004 and now scheguled for another cervical fusion in my neck above the last one.in 3arly september. I have had a tough life up until the year 2000. Lost both my parents in the 1990's and two brothers as well in that decade. Through lots of therapy and lots of healing I cab actually say my last 10 years have been the best with a few set backs. But I am still keeping up with the rest of the world. and am happy and content with my circles of friends my partner and my dog and cat. Life is good. Sept.27 2010: 2 weeks post op. The fusion went well and...Expand for more
I feel almost like life is just beginning.I do have residual post surgey discomforts , but get better everyday. Thank Goddness for friends. In case you don't know who I was in school, I really was pretty invisable. I loved playing sports but hung with the "freaks" and really just blended in mostly. I did not do any after sschool activities. For my sophmore and junior years I was plaged with bad pimples, it was never acne, just big red zits. I wore lots of foundation to cover the pimples. I was very ashamed of them. Then suddenly resolved in my senior year. My friends, were mostly some of the freaks who let me hang with them. There were a couple of you who I would say were friends but I never knewif you considered me a friend., . I felt way out of place spending time with the "jocks" I felt beneath them. Yes I was teased sometimes by the guys and some girls, but that is expected from kids anyway, I was never bullyed or was a bully enough to cause longterm trauma. I managed to fly under the radar a lot of the time. I did not do anything eventful enough in school to stand out for many to remember. I wish I could go back and do life over with the knowledge that I have now but thats not how life works. The bottom line is I found my way through struggles of teenhood and became a responsible adult. Through the years I learned how to live. I love my life.
