Susan's Story
Dosey HS is a very long time ago with lots of water over the dam! I went to college in the east after graduating from HS and married 2 weeks after graduating. We moved to England where we both taught at private schools. My son was born there the following July. We returned to the States and lived at a boarding school in MA where my husband taught school. My daughter was born in 1962 . My husband left teaching and went to work at an insurance company working his way up to senior VP. I kept very busy being a Mom, playing tennis and volunteering. I returned to college and got another degree with honors majoring in Art History and East Asian Studies with winter term study in both China and Italy. I divorced, then traveled with a known photographer (aka Bridges of Madison County) all over the world. I developed a business doing photo research which opened a door to photography which I picked up in frustration when I asked my friend to take a photo of...and the reply was, "It will never sell"...so I bought a camera and the rest is history. The combination of photo research and photography has worked very well. I love having my own business. I remarried in the late 80's to a cardio/thoracic surgeon, whom I met when I was 26 yrs old on a vacation to Bermuda with my first husband. Our children more or less grew up together. Dexter is retired now, but I AM NOT and never will! I continue to enjoy traveling...we take several big off shore trips each year as well as many domestic ones which keeps my photo stock current. I have had a number of photo shows, won so...Expand for more
me blue ribbons along the way and had lots of pleasure for the efforts. My son is married and he and his wife and their two super sons live about an hour away. My daughter and her husband, Joe, live a couple of hours away. It is great to have my family witin easy driving distance. We have a boxer puppy who brings lots of joy to my husband...OK, to me, too, BUT she is lots of work. I am very active and have been fortunate to have good health with no problems to date. I still swim laps, play tennis and ski occasionally. We enjoy visiting museums, collecting art, traveling and reading non-fiction. Memories of HS are not at the top of the pile, but I remember sunshine and courtyard lunches with friends, archery in the far field, petticoats galore,my close friend, Betty Bickford who is, sadly, deceased, Ms. Clementi, Tri-Debs getting off the ground - I wonder if it is still viable? Right now, my life is all about family, business, travel, books and dog, Amy. I was very lucky to have a wonderful family growing up with supportive parents, who sent us off to summer camp at a very early age. They nurtured independence, took us on many trips to see how the rest of the world lived and saw that I developed skills which make me comfortable wherever in the world I am. I am grateful and I have tried to use their template in bringing up my own children. There have been rocks in the road, but climbing over them builds confidence. Storms are all followed by sunny skies! I hope to get to our 50th reunion in Oct.'08. It will be interesting to reconnect with old friends.
