Susan's Story

Life After graduating from THS, I went to David Lipscomb College, came home, got married, got a job at IRS, and had a daughter, Candy. We divorced when Candy was 8, and I was a single working Mom for several years until I met my current husband Dwayne while we were both working in Marietta at IRS. We married in 1987 and moved to DC where we both worked at National IRS Headquarters as analysts for various parts of the organization. Candy and Richie got married while we were living in Maryland, so we had the interesting "planning a long distance wedding" experience. It and the marriage turned out well. We transferred back here in 1994 as part of the IRS re-organization efforts and have been here ever since. We were glad to be back to assist our families through the sickness and deaths of my father and Dwayne's mother and to watch our two grandsons, Taylor, 14, and Avery, 13, grow into the exceptional, handsome, smart human beings that they are. They are also fantastic ice hockey players in the Junior Thrashers organization where Avery is a top goalie and Taylor is a top scorer for their division, even garnering MVP for the Spring league! ecommend it! It does help to have a wonderful younger spouse who is still working! We love to travel and do a lot of it and enjoy taking photos of all the places we have been. I joined the Red Hat Society a couple of years ago and enjoy all the activities we have planned. I spend a lot of time with my Mom who lives at Sunrise Assisted Living in Decatur. She has been there for about 4 1/2 years now. We are living with dementia through her, and we find we truly enjoy whatever days we have together more and more. We just went through an awful 2 years with Dwayne's younger brother who was diagnosed with cancer, received a bone marrow transplant, stayed with us through his recovery, finally rejected the transplant and subsequently died in July. He put up quite a fight, but is now free from that pain and suffering. Also, for the last two years, we have had a new set of cats, Thelma and Louise, who are aptly named. They have been and are a great comfort and good companions through all these experiences. Sounds like we stay busy, doesn't it, but most of it is great, thank God! I just never seem to have time to get all my little projects completed, and no, I do not know how I ever had time to work!! I am really looking forward to any reunions we have as a class and would love to get together with classmates whenever possible.
