David's Story

Wow... are we getting old or what? I live and work in Sac, after living in Wash DC, VA, MD, MI, FL and the bay area. Hoping to end up back there soon, (not a huge Sac fan!). Mom & Dad are retired in Hawaii, my brother & sister are in Oakhurst. I left Fresno in 79 and never came back (except to visit). Life has been a challenge for this Cougar. When I reflect back on my high school years I realize how great life was. Ya... didn't know anything, but I sure loved my life... drumming was my passion and still is. My three years in the Coast Guard left me with ever lasting memories. As a member of the Presidential Ceremonial Honor Guard during the Reagan era I experienced many great moments and... some not so good ones including; The assassination attempt on the President by Hinkley and the Air Florida flight 90 crash into the Potomac River. I spent over 10 years on the East Coast. DC, Baltimore, Philly, NY, Boston and all of the South. What an education! I was able to stay close to the music scene after my CG days. Working as a roady for one of the biggest sound companies in the country. I was introduced to real life with real stars. Behind the scenes with som...Expand for more
e of the biggest names in the industry. A couple of my fondest moments - Meeting Dean Martin back stage with Crystal Gayle, Don Rickles with Helen Ready and Burt Reynolds with Anne Murray. The best one of all was hanging out with Buddy Rich for a 3-night tour with Frank Sinatra. I even got to play his drums. I am divorced today and have 4 great kids. Tess 23, Justin 21, Ryan soon to be 12 and Hannah 11. I have been in the trucking industry (moving & storage) forever. I also keep busy playing music in a Carpenters Tribute group, a rockin gospel group and various studio projects laying down drum tracks for various artists. The most important thing I have learned is to NEVER give up on your dreams. Life is hard, then it is good, then it sucks, then it gets a little better again and it goes on and on and on that way. Change is constant, we're not... so embrace it with courage, strength and hope. I miss the "Good Ole Happy Days" at CHS and I'm grateful for the ability to stay in contact with you through Classmates. I hope to hear from those of you who actually use this site, and hope that one day our tribute to the Carpenters makes it down Fresno way. Peace!
