Susan's Story
Life
I went to WV Wesleyan College after high school. I majored in psychology for 2 years. Because my parents had moved to Michigan in the meantime I then transferred to Calvin College and changed my major to Religion & Theology which is what my bachelor's degree is in. I met Dan the summer of '81. We dated through spring when he asked me to marry him. We set the date for May '83. I went off to Penn State for some training with a group called Coalition for Christian Outreach. That fall I worked as an Resident hall assistant at Alderson-Broaddus College in WV.But moved back to Michigan that winter to find a job locally, plan our wedding and find a home. nd child the following year I quit the time consuming real estate business and began a home business selling Discovery Toys. I had taken about 2 years of graduate classes in business to try to help me as a home business owner during this time also.Discovery Toys lasted about 6 years before I switched to a line of health type products home sales with a company called E'ola which lasted 3 years. My grandmother died the fall of '99. When I went down south for her funeral my sister mentioned that she was going to become a substitute teacher. I knew that she didn't have a teacher's certificate any more than I did but I did have the amount of schooling required. When I was in high school I had been very inspired by Mr Harshman and had wanted to be an English teacher. I guess that dream has finally come around except that I have actually taught more math than english.
