Susan's Story

Life Oh my gosh, how did we get twenty years down the road already?! I'll try to keep this short and sweet...After high school I went off to the University of Akron, living on Carroll Street, and majoring in Elementary Education, Psychology and ultimately Interior Design. It took a couple extra years to obtain my BA because I lost my dad to cancer somewhere in there. I partied my backside off as well, and made a few good choices in boyfriends as well as my share of not-so-good choices. All in all it was a time of freedom, growing up and finding myself that turned out ok. I found myself crossing the finish line at graduation on the dean's list and with an armful of friends. While at U of A, I worked at Ken Stewart's Grille on West Market Street. After graduation, I was offered and accepted an Interior Design position in Boardman, OH, but ended up declining that offer as I was proposed marriage to by my husband Tom and accepted his proposal. So instead, I stayed in Akron working both for Ken Stewart and at my church, St. Hilary, got married, became pregnan...Expand for more
t, and began my new life as a wife and stay-at-home mom. I've done a lot of domestic traveling, continuing education in whatever has struck my fancy, volunteering at church, in the community and at schools. My biggest joy has been my girls, Vivian, age eight, and Juliet, age four. My biggest grief was a time of marital instability, but we survived it and are several years down the road now and have healed that chapter in our lives. My biggest loss, was the friendship of my mother, who also died of cancer. We live in the rural midwest now, having left Akron in 2005. It's different, but interesting and wonderful in it's own way...and it makes me anticipate all other wonderful surprises life has to offer and I look forward to the future and how it will unfold. I have a special affinity to living the fine life (who doesn't, right?), the ocean, traveling and always saw myself in the peace corps or as a missionary (or at least doing charitable work). We'll see what God has planned for me and my family and enjoy the ride...Will update you at the thirtieth!
